Note: batch 5 and all subsequent batches are put into Red Wine Barrels (the batch number is printed on the label). All earlier batches were in White Wine Barrels and should not be rated here. Release 5 of Brainless on Cherries, has a new twist- we used Red Wine (cab and syrah) barrels for the second fermentation and aging as apposed to White Wine barrels. The result, dryer, lighter body, fruit shines thru and a bit of tannin and wood notes in the finish

Beautiful beer in the glass, but not terribly memorable otherwise. Hoppy with some cherry and wood flavors. Does not really seem like a Belgian to me, as it claims to be.

651 ml. bottle. Release# 27. Den# 1553. 11% ABV. Pours a minimal, rapidly dispersing off white head, over a clear copper (SRM 17) body.....nose is slight cherry, light base malts, no hops.....taste is slightly sweet, with light cherry, minimal base malts, no hops, balance to the cherry......mouth feel, light of medium body, slightly harsh alcohol warmth present, fizzy carbonation. This particular bottle is a very light in all characteristics. The cherry, barrel, malts and hops are all relatively hidden. The result is almost as bad as the proverbial malt beverage made by the Industrial brewers. BJCP 6/2/10/4/5

Everything is too tame in this. Very very ligt cherry with a light belgian ale background. No booze for such a strong beer. Cherry is so weak.

This beer cost $10.50. It had a sweeter taste which definitely came from the cherries.

For abv and what they are doing I expected more. Not a ton of fruit comes through. Almost hot alcohol. Thin head average not my thing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours hazy red with small fizzy head out of bottle. Aroma of cherries and funkiness. Flavor of cherry, wine, and funky sour. Good beer overall but was hoping for it to be better. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured from bottle, pours a dark hazy amber red with an off white head and a little bit of lacing in the glass, the aroma has a bit of the cherries coming through with some of the red wine as well, not as pronounced as I was expecting, the flavor has a tart cherry front end with a dry finish and a little bit of oak showing.

Light unclear deep amber color with a small head. Cherries and some yeast in the aroma. Fine body and tad sweet. Moderate sournes/acidity. Soft carbonation. Oak, cherries and some yeast in the flavor. Decent nice ale. Well masked alcohol.

UPDATED: JAN 3, 2015 Real malty cherry wine aroma. Many phases. Starts tasting like a smoke porter, ends sweet. Think it’s a Belgian. Not my fav

Draft to taster. Looks solid; a hazy fuller orange with thin eggshell head that dissipates quickly and completely. Smells and tastes of Belgian yeast, oak, and mild cherries with some soft vinous notes woven in. Medium-bodied and softly carbonated. Semi-dry. Enjoyable.

Interesting take on the original Brainless. Tart berry and cherry aroma with some funk. Pretty soft ruby color with hints on bronze. Medium and smooth palate. Carbonation was subtle. Cherry with a sharpness that had hints of oak and finished dry. Most presumably from the wine influence.
