COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Note: batch 5 and all subsequent batches are put into Red Wine Barrels (the batch number is printed on the label). All earlier batches were in White Wine Barrels and should not be rated here. Release 5 of Brainless on Cherries, has a new twist- we used Red Wine (cab and syrah) barrels for the second fermentation and aging as apposed to White Wine barrels. The result, dryer, lighter body, fruit shines thru and a bit of tannin and wood notes in the finish

Smells of cherry, didn’t even know this was a barrel aged beer before I came to rate it. Tartness of the cherries seems to cover up the belgian yeast flavor, but there is a slight hint of it. Pretty tart.

Rating #2107 - Bottle from CBI. Pours a light hazy pink colour, fairly thick white foam. Aroma and taste is sweet, cherry pie. Great belgian character as well, presence of yeast, wheat, coriander, mild clove, mild Syrah kinda vibe, mild tannic. ABV is surreally disproportionate to your perception, drinks as though it may be sessionable, I can assure you after punishing the bomber it is not. A crown jewel of fruit beers.

Bottle at the tapless taproom in SLC. Brilliant red color but minimal head. Aroma is a little weak, cherry with vinous notes. Medium sweet cherry and red wine flavor, slight spicy yeast. Medium bodied, not great carbonation. Meh.

August 27th, 2014 - We’ve already had the Brainless on Peaches, so we move to the next zombie clarion call of sours, the Brainless on Cherries. This one sits much darker in the glass, more brown than amber, but not as dark as a porter, or even as a brown ale. It’s a foxier brown, with a little more rouge. The head disappears quickly, leaving a thin fence of bubbles at the edge of the glass, which gives free flow and access to the aroma. There I find, expectedly, cherries, with a nice acidity and tartness, rather than a cherry pie or a cherry cordial. The palate is thinner than I remember on the Brainless with Peaches, and features a very low carbonation, which lets all of the fruit flavors tumble onto the tongue unfettered. The cherry notes here are watered, with just a bit of watering down. Like a whiskey, a drop or two of dilution lets the flavors breathe, and that seems to be the case here, as the dark cherry flavors deliver the fruitier parts of their past lives without sugary decadence or excess.

Draft at the Epic Brewing Denver Taproom. Poured a cherry red color with a off-white pink head. Aroma was sour cherries, red wine notes. Flavor was sweet/tart cherries. Like the white wine barrel, this one is very tart, and very tasty. Booze sneaks in.

On tap. Pours a slightly hazy light red with no head. Sweet aroma of cherries, alcohol and oak. Sweet flavour of cherries, oak, red wine and Belgian yeast with a dry, slightly tart, boozy finish. Medium body with a watery to oily texture and flat carbonation. A bit too much alcohol. The peach and raspberry versions were better.

Bottle. Pours a clear pink gold with small frothy off white head that lasts. The aroma is cherry skin and oak. Thin mouth with strong cherry, vinous, oak, light tartness, good.

Tap at Watering Hole. Lots of oak and cherry notes on the nose with a slight medicinal quality but not in a bad way. Thin body with less than average carbonation and a medium body with a slightly creamy mouthfeel. More oak on the palate with some almond and booze. Boozy finish with a tart cherry finish. Not tart or sour enough really, but still interesting.

650 ml bottle. Pours a pinkish copper color with almost no head. Aromas of cherry cotton candy and metallic Belgian yeast. Flavors of woody, dry cotton candy, and earthly Belgian yeast. Sticky. OK but can’t see what the fuss is about. Way over priced.

From Bottle King for 12 bucks or 13. #37, supposed to be opened by 2013 it seems but not sure. Aroma: Cherry, alcohol, wood, a bit of sweetness. Appearance: cherry concentrate red, dark-ish with a nice head. Looks like dark cherry juice, ala Tamek or some other brands. Taste: Medium sour cherry up front with light sweetness and a little too much alcohol. A little vinous also. Palate has a good amount of alcohol, some pepperiness, real sipper. light flz. A little too much alcohol but pretty good.
