Rarely does a craft brewed doppelbock rank up with the best from Germany. Pots a nice looking golden brown with a thin beige head with a light stream of carbonation. Aroma is a bit malty with caramel and soft toffee, pinch of spice and nutty notes throughout. Light fruit note on the mid palate and almost no bitterness. Light malty sweetness on the finish with a bit of warmth.

650ml bottle pours a deep amber color with a finger of off-white head that leaves very little lacing behind. Aroma is caramel with some grass and dark fruits. Taste is a caramel malty sweetness with a grassy hop bitterness. Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, a respectable brew that suits the style well. Recommended for those dark German beer lovers out there.

August 27th, 2014 - Hot off the elation of the first beer of the day - Epic Brewing’s Utah Sage Saison - is something a little darker and sharper, with the Double Skull Doppelbock. Brown and thick, it is a cup of brunette brew, colored like a doe. The aroma is hard to get from the taster, but the taste is sweet, imitating with a complex flurry of malt sugars and flavors. This is also launched with notes of fig, plum and prune. The body is also refreshing, almost sparkling, and helps to lighten some of those dark sugar flavors, elevating them to new transmogrifications, like sassafras. The aftertaste is short, though, so catching those notes as the change is like catching a ail-o-the-wisp, dancing and bouncing.

Wood, caramel, biscuit, dark fruit, some mild roast. Very drinkable doppelbock that is usually not my fav.

Had a small glass at J Henry’s invoice. Or is dark brown caramel. That is green meat and white but the leasing is not very good. The taste is mostly of molasses and Dusty cereal with a little bit of booze and fig chocolates. The mouth has soft carbonation it a nice long sticky finish which really rounds off the beer .. Decent doppelganster! .. . . Dictated not read.

Dark brown with a medium cream head. Sweet aroma of roasted malts. Taste is sweet, roasted malts, caramel, fruits. Smooth with a medium body, sweet, not boozy. Classic flavours for a quality beer.

22 from andersons. Red Amber hue with brown white head that dissipates quick. Nose is malty and sweet. Smooth and bready with some Caramel notes. Not too complex but belly warming. Hides alcohol amazingly well. Ok but not great.

22 ounce bottle shared. The beer is a clear brown color with a beige head of foam that dissipates quickly. The aroma has a strong wood character with a caramel sweetness backing things up. Very sweet beer overall, with that woody character being the driving factor. An interesting beer, I must say. I don’t believe it was aged in any sort of wood, but it definitely tastes and smells like it was. Bigger body and medium carbonation.

Bomber a gift from Furiousdman. Nose is vanilla caramels, citrus, and a hint of golden raisins. Clear amber with a medium lightly lacing beige head. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter, and a hint of toffee. Hoppier than most dopplebocks but extremely drinkable.
