Originally brewed as liquid bread by fasting monks this Doppelbock is rich and filling. Crisp and delicious for the winter months.

At Uber in Seattle. Coppery brown. Fresh amber malt, a bit muddled. Not a strong copper bite. But nice.

Bottle - Pours cola colored with a thin tan head. Nose is malty and nutty, with a weird sourness going on. Taste is sour bread malt, light nuttiness, and an odd sweetness that I can only describe as a faint root beer float flavor. Yeah, I know--weird. Pretty thin in the mouth, and not at all what I expected when I read "doppelbock" on the label.

Bomber bottle poured a clear ruby-amber hue w/ a frothy tan slowly diminishing head. Medium to bold malty aroma. Initial flavor is a moderate sweet w/ a light bitter finish. Tastes are grains, light roasted malts, and bread. Medium bodied, lively carbonation, and a dry finish.

A sweet malt-driven Americanized doppelbock with a strong fruit cup / apple / pear and cara malt core. Medium body, medium-high bitterness, pinching hops in a watery, thinning finish. Alcohol / fruit hooch, yeast chalkiness and mineral and metal notes as it warms and opens, and a sour cola and Nutri-Sweer flavor settles in.

Bomber from Hayduke. We had it together via facebook chat. An almost clear dark amber hue to this beer. LOTS of carbonation launches from the bottom. The head is beige and is about one finger. Not a lot of aroma but it seems pretty much a classic doppelbock. After the first sip I am sold on this beer. Cocoa and caramel in the first sip is very nice. Later some citrus hops are tasted and they add a nice change of pace. Dark fruit. This becomes a liqueur and resembles the rum that is in a chocolate covered cherry. The alcohol is tasted as in the liqueur. Late I taste nuts. Ron and I both agree that this is almost chewy. It is like drinking candy. This is a really well brewed dopplebock, perhaps the best I have had.

This was release number 3, ABV 8.5% on the bottle. Shared with Strykzone on Facebook Chat. I pours a garnet color with a medium tan head. Light lacing. Nose is a blast of rich caramel malts, and some dark fruit. Actually lots of dark fruit. Earthy. Medium in body with a very clean smooth mouthfeel and hint of the alcohol. Wish there was no hint, but this IS 8.5% so I guess some is expected. The flavor is very rich, and the rich malts and ripe fruit is augmented by some floral hops. Chocolate appears as it warms. The finish is mostly on the sweet side and is almost chewy. Nuts finally appear as well. This is a simply delicious beer and the lager smoothness makes it very easy drinking. I am really enjoying this beer.

Draft to taster. Looks solid; a transparent light copperish orwnge with thin off-white lacing. Smells and tastes sweet and malty with notes of caramel. Nice and smooth on the palate. Enjoyable.
