COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally brewed as liquid bread by fasting monks this Doppelbock is rich and filling. Crisp and delicious for the winter months.

Tap @ The BeerMongers... This 20oz Imperial Pint show a deep, reddish/mahogany color with a nice forming, eggy, off-white head. A very nice Dopplebock. Good malt sweetness, chewy, earthy, candied sugars. Dark fruits added dimension here. Hops were there, but faint and offered just enough to balance.

Bottle at home. Pours clear dark brown with a small, creamy off-white head, short retention with spare lacing. Aroma is toast, caramel, cookie and nutty sweet malt, dates and figs with light vanilla notes. Flavor is moderate sweet malt, dark fruits, faint earthy hops and bitterness, peppery alcohol and a sweet, chewy finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

Light head, light color for a doppelbock. Lightly roasted malts, walnuts, earthy hops, sweet grains. Pretty mild overall flavor, hint of alcohol.

651 ml. bottle. Release #22. 8.7 ABV per the label. Pours a thin well retained ivory head, over a clear light brown (SRM 18) body....nose is light, plum, raisin, cola notes, light toasted malts, minimal hops, balance to the malts.....taste is cereal malts to start, then light plum, raisin tones, sweet throughout, finishing almost dry....mouth feel, light of medium body, sticky, light alcohol warmth, finishing with minimal acid, and low carbonation. This is a simple and uncomplicated Dopplebock which is sweet without balancing complexity. It is cereal dominated and is quite bread like in its construction. It is not crisp, but is quite filling. Sample at the tap room in Denver. Dark copper color with a medium beige head that diminishes gradually to a film. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel and dark fruit. Medium-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, raisins and earthy hops. The finish is grainy malt and dark fruits. Decent overall.

Bomber from the Utah State store on Harris in Salt Lake City. Pours dark copper with very little head. Rich caramel/treacle aroma. Not a lot of hop smell. Med + body. Flavor is rich caramel, with a little treacle. It’s certainly not dry. The hop is just enough for some flavor and balance. It’s very nice.

This beer is a reddish dark brown pour with a thin head of white bubbles. Nose is faint but a bit of malt backed by red fruit. Taste is a muted malt with a bit of stone fruit on the finish. the body is lively. An interesting beer.

Clear dark brown amber pour with good ring of tan head. Big bready awesomely sweet raisinbread. Ever so slight alcohol warmth, but extremely well hidden. Drinks deceptively smooth. One of the best american attempts at the style that ive had.

Bomber from the brewery. Pours dark with some red hues and a small head. The aroma is sweet with vegetal notes. Brown sugar, molasses and bread make up the nose. The flavor is rich and sugary with a sticky palate. Lots of molasses, brown sugar and a little fig and banana are noted. It’s really sugary for the 8.5%. I haven’t had a doppelbock in a while, but I seem to recall more spiced notes in other examples, this one is pretty straightforward sweet malts. I’d like a little more here than just the sweet malt flavor, but perhaps this is how the beer was intended to be.

Sweet malty aroma. Burnt dark red color. Nice sized head. Lots of toffee flavors with a malty finish. Very good. Best Doppelbock I can remember drinking.

Aroma is caramel/toffee, dark fruit and nutty malts. The flavor is caramel, toffee, malts, a hint of coffee, dark fruit and a mildly tart/tangy finish.
