Release#4 9% ABV. 22oz bomber, didn’t open with much of a hiss, but it still had a nice off white head on top of a filtered ruby-amber red-brown body. A pretty well done Doppelbock certainly, captures some nice lager notes. Smooth creamy malt tones. A touch thin at times, sort of makes you wonder how it would have been unfiltered, but I imagine the way it is keeps it way more drinkable. Rich bready, fig, butterscotch, dessert finish. Really enjoyable beer!

Bomber: Caramel malt, somewhat of a plum note, a bit of coffee, and a nice roasted note. Appearance is a dark clear black with a golden hue to it. Taste is caramel, roasted, nutty, with a very light grassy note. Palate is medium mouth feel with an aftertaste of malts. Overall, Decent not top shelf. Cheers!

22 oz bottle, "Release #5 9.1% ABV." Dark garnet pour; frothy tan head builds as the beer is poured; dissipates into absolutely zero covering; no lacing. Aroma sweet, nutty malt, bread, deep-but-not-quite-dark fruit. Flavor has a fruit ester thing going on, pretty sweet, toast; clear alcohol in the exhale but not boozy. Medium body, heavy but smooth carbonation and quite sticky. Less than mind-blowing but well above average and one of Epic’s better offerings that I’ve had to date.

Bottle; poured a dark auburn color with a small to average khaki colored head. Aroma of dark fruit and caramel, with a hint of roastedness. Some sweetness and alcohol. A pretty full and slightly creamy mouthfeel. A solid flavor. Caramel and dark fruit; slight sweet and obviously malty. Short finish. Some light hoppiness in the finish. A pretty solid version of the style.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass; Release #2, bottled 2/15/2012. Pours slightly hazy reddish brown color with a nice 2 finger dense cream colored head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings to the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, toffee, toast, molasses, chocolate, raisin, nuttiness, biscuit, earth, leather, and light herbal. Damn nice aromas with big malt complexity and balance. Taste of big caramel, toffee, toast, molasses, chocolate, raisin, nuttiness, biscuit, leather, light roast, earth, and light herbal spiciness. Lingering notes of caramel, toffee, toast, molasses, biscuit, chocolate, nuttiness, raisin, light prune, earth, and herbal spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic malt complexity and balance; with almost zero cloying sweetness present after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very creamy and slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent doppelbock! Fantastic malt complexity and balance; and very smooth to sip on. A highly enjoyable offering; one of the better doppelbocks I have had.

Grabbed at Tops in Tempe. 22oz bomber pours clear deep copper with a tan looking head of foam. The aroma offers up sweet malts, caramel, dark fruity esters and a pleasing breadiness. The taste is surprisingly similar with sweet malts, some ripe red apple and apricot moving into caramel and a nice grounding sort of breadiness. This thing is just hitting the spot right now with its richness, complexity and balance.

Bomber - clear light ruby - frothy lace - a bit of caramel and light melanoidin notes upon first sniff, followed by a light metallic character and alot of bright, fruity notes, lightly floral hops, and finally, some alcohol (a bit too much) - medium body - low carbonation - fairly sweet, but a clean sweetness - some raisin, dried cherries, caramel - mild floral bitterness on the tail end, as well as some alcohol heat - some good stuff happening, but this can’t sustain the abv so the alcohol comes on far too strong - knock this down to 7% at the most and you may have a winner.

On draft. Smells nutty. Taste is sweet and smoky. It is the lightest 9 abc beer that I have ever had. Dangerous and tasty.
