Release#4 9% ABV. 22oz bomber, didn’t open with much of a hiss, but it still had a nice off white head on top of a filtered ruby-amber red-brown body. A pretty well done Doppelbock certainly, captures some nice lager notes. Smooth creamy malt tones. A touch thin at times, sort of makes you wonder how it would have been unfiltered, but I imagine the way it is keeps it way more drinkable. Rich bready, fig, butterscotch, dessert finish. Really enjoyable beer!

Bomber from the brewery. Pours dark with some red hues and a small head. The aroma is sweet with vegetal notes. Brown sugar, molasses and bread make up the nose. The flavor is rich and sugary with a sticky palate. Lots of molasses, brown sugar and a little fig and banana are noted. It’s really sugary for the 8.5%. I haven’t had a doppelbock in a while, but I seem to recall more spiced notes in other examples, this one is pretty straightforward sweet malts. I’d like a little more here than just the sweet malt flavor, but perhaps this is how the beer was intended to be.

Sweet malty aroma. Burnt dark red color. Nice sized head. Lots of toffee flavors with a malty finish. Very good. Best Doppelbock I can remember drinking.

Bomber. Clear reddish amber with an off-white head that laces. Aromas of caramel, toasted malt, molasses, and light grainy earth notes. Flavor is sweet caramel, toasted malt, molasses, some fruit and nuts. Medium bodied and lightly carbonated; linger sweet molasses with a slight dry finish.

From a bottle. Pours ruby copper with a fizzy, creamy white head. Tastes very nutty, malty, like vegetables, gourds, dryness, some booze, and light spice. Light/medium body and carbonation. Smells like malt, booze, and yams.

At Uber in Seattle. Coppery brown. Fresh amber malt, a bit muddled. Not a strong copper bite. But nice.

madvike (2588) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 19, 2014
Bottle - Pours cola colored with a thin tan head. Nose is malty and nutty, with a weird sourness going on. Taste is sour bread malt, light nuttiness, and an odd sweetness that I can only describe as a faint root beer float flavor. Yeah, I know--weird. Pretty thin in the mouth, and not at all what I expected when I read "doppelbock" on the label.
