Epic Brewing Company’s latest barrel-aged beer brings something new—wild yeast. This brew is a collaboration ale with Crooked Stave Artisan Brewing of Fort Collins, Colorado. Chad Yakobson, Brewmaster/Owner of Crooked Stave, is well known for his skill and knowledge in the brewing of sour and Brettanomyces driven beers. The beer was brewed at Epic by the two brewers. Kevin Crompton, Epic’s Brewmaster, and Chad spent several weeks working on the recipe and selecting the proper Brett strains and barrels for the beer to morph from a golden Saison into a Saison-Brett Golden Ale.

Look, I like simple. It's a saison meets a sour. Get over it people. Very nice for SLC. Not as awesome as 529 or 5th element (Squatters SLC - good luck finding any) but it'll do just fine. Very alcoholic, ~10%. Plan on not remembering drinking this one. ;)

Bottle. Clear gold with thin white head. Funky Brett aroma with some fruity notes. Taste follows suit but adds some vanilla and oak with a lacto finish. Thinnish mouthfeel that lingers with moderate carb. Excellent.

Pours clear straw color with almost no head. Nose is very tart, with Brett, sour apple, tropical fruit, barnyard. Smells like a sour apple blow pop. Taste is milder than the nose, barnyard, Brett, sour apple, little peach, can taste the saison it once was, some funk and bitterness at the end, pretty dry, little bite to it. Not nearly as tart as the nose would lead you to believe, also not as tart as a true wild ale /sour. Solid, interesting beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22oz bottle In a tulip. Pours hazy golden with an off-white head. Aroma of pale and caramel malts, light Brett, wine, some spice and fruits, and light oak. Flavor the same. Average texture. A pretty good beer but expecting more from a collaboration of these breweries.

Clear golden with a thin sticky white head. Has a strong Brett yeast aroma, yet with a gentle sweetness, blonde malts and dust. Flavor is big and blonde malty, semi-sweet, with a bit of a spicy undertone. Loads of funky dry Bretty yeast throughout. Barnyard notes, peach and dry white wine dominate. Dry earthy Brett finish.

750ml release #3. Pours a nice golden color with a white head leaving minimal lacing. Aroma is tart with big waves of pear, apple, and dandelion flowers. Tatse is big funky brett, tart and wonderful. This beer is awesome, I love Brett though so this was right up my alley.

Bottle (release #4, 9.1% ABV, SLC #1397) poured into a tulip. Pours a clear light golden yellow with almost a finger off-white head. Nice amount of carbonation streaming up the glass. Brett, funk, tropical fruit, pear on the nose. On the taste, big Brett notes, funk, slightly tart, pear, some wine and oak. Crisp and refreshing with a medium body and dry finish.
