COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Epic Brewing Company’s latest barrel-aged beer brings something new—wild yeast. This brew is a collaboration ale with Crooked Stave Artisan Brewing of Fort Collins, Colorado. Chad Yakobson, Brewmaster/Owner of Crooked Stave, is well known for his skill and knowledge in the brewing of sour and Brettanomyces driven beers. The beer was brewed at Epic by the two brewers. Kevin Crompton, Epic’s Brewmaster, and Chad spent several weeks working on the recipe and selecting the proper Brett strains and barrels for the beer to morph from a golden Saison into a Saison-Brett Golden Ale.

I swear my bottle said this was 3.9% but I didnt save it... Nicely crisp and funky with light tartness and a grassy herbal feel. Tasty and highly drinkable. If it really was 9% then it was amazingly drinkable.

Bottle shared at Ale Alpharetta. Taste has white grapes, green apple, barnyard, acidic, some tropical fruitiness. Super dry finish with some known alcohol riding out. I though this was great.

Release #1 into a tulip. Unlike the second, more common release this is unfiltered and a little lower in ABV. One of only 3,600 bottles and I’m kind of regretting opening this on my own because I’m loving it. Have had Release #2 on tap and, to me, this is on another level. The almost two and a half years of age probably helps. Not good at describing this kind of stuff, but it looks great with a bright white pillowy head, a clear golden color with plenty of floaties. Smells great and tastes even better. If you can get a bottle of the first release without too much trouble, get it.

Pours a golden orange. Nice head that fades fast. Nose is very close to Shaun hill's art. Nice funk and wine tannins. Sweet undertones. Taste is nice. Enjoyable, tart and sweet. Wine notes are there. It's pretty good!

The aroma is rich with the musty, barnyard-like character that “Brett” is famous for as well as some remnants of the white wine. The flavor also has wonderful amounts of fruity notes both from the yeast and hints of the peach fermentation that took place previously in the barrel, all rounded out with a pleasant and refreshing acidity and incredible drinkability for an 8.8% ABV beverage. The beer has a round body, is dominated by yeast character, but is tart enough to leave the palette refreshed and wanting more.

Bottle from Aaron. Thanks, brah. Light golden colored beer with a white head. Big pineapple, citrus, and banana notes. White wine, oak, lemon, and lime. There’s a light malt sweetness, green apple, apricot, and peach. The flavor is excellent as well. Nice malt and fruit sweetness, some wine, and a subtle tartness. Plenty of lemon, lime, pineapple, and apricot. A touch of yeast, some leather, and a very subtle funk.

From a bomber into a Duvel tulip. Pours a verrrrrrry light yellow, almost disturbingly so. No head or lacing. Mouthfeel is light. Aroma is bretty and Limey. Taste is an odd but pleasing combination of tang, wine, funk and tangerine. Very good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22oz bomber from Sun Devil (wow, $12?) pours with a crystal clear gold body supporting a weak white head. The aroma offers up wafer thin citrus lemon and lime and then soured lime and grapefruit peel with mild funky citrus earthiness in the background. The taste has a long narrow jab of Brett-y tartness but I get complimentary sweet fruity ester notes like peach, green apple and apricot creating an interesting balance. This is nice stuff where the ABV is well hidden away.
