COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Epic Brewing Company’s latest barrel-aged beer brings something new—wild yeast. This brew is a collaboration ale with Crooked Stave Artisan Brewing of Fort Collins, Colorado. Chad Yakobson, Brewmaster/Owner of Crooked Stave, is well known for his skill and knowledge in the brewing of sour and Brettanomyces driven beers. The beer was brewed at Epic by the two brewers. Kevin Crompton, Epic’s Brewmaster, and Chad spent several weeks working on the recipe and selecting the proper Brett strains and barrels for the beer to morph from a golden Saison into a Saison-Brett Golden Ale.

22oz. bottle, shared by my bud, Joel. Pour is hazy yellow, with big white head which sticks around for the duration of the pour. Aroma is barnyard funk, citrus, with big lemon notes. Taste is bitter up front, followed by lemon and lesser citrus, with a nice tartness. Finish is tart, sour and funky with a lingering bitterness. Very nice saison. Good job on this one.

Really enjoyed this one! 14 karat pour with a nice ivory head. Musty, dusty, dirty, dank. Little peppery, touch of spice, some citrus, bit yeasty. The brett definitely adds an interesting dynamic. Almost get some sage and coriander. Delicious and refreshing!

(22oz bomber thanks to bu11zeye, release #1) clear pale yellow, soapy white edge bubbles. Nose of berries, strawberries, lacto/sour, lemon, smells complex and awesome, white wine barrel. Taste of lemon, berry, light brett, light wood, pretty tart, nice beer! Medium body, fairy well carbonated.

22oz bottle, release #1. Pours a hazy yellow with a smallish white head that goes to a thin film that leaves some lacing. It has quite a few floaties.

The aroma is floral brett and some slightly metallic overripe fruits and some funk.

The flavor is some fruity apple champagne with brett notes and some funk with a bit of bitterness in the dry finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, I recall this being a much better brett beer when I had it a couple of months ago. Either this bottle is different or it isn’t aging well for my tastes. A lot more sediment this time around too.

Bomber from Sam’s, Durham. Damn, those Epic folks keep cranking out the beers. Cloudy pale gold pour, something vaguely Berliner-ish to the appearance but the rocky head and the earthy consistency remind of the saison style. As the beer settled in, it got very sedimental. And appropriately, the nose was a bit overly-earthy, with clashing notes of brett, berry, yeast, and grains. Might be the kind of thing that comes together a bit more down the road but as is I found it uninspiring.

651mL thanks to tastybeer. Pours glowing straw. Thick white foam. Sheets of lace. Nose is rich Brett C tropicals, pineapple, curaçao. Very powerful. Taste is salty, a bit papery, mild celery, lemon, orange oil. Actually not bad. Body is not dry or minerally. Pretty good stuff. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from AZ Wine. Love the label. Pours straw in color with steady carbonation and a white head that leaves faint lacing. Smells of oak, cherries, and canned peaches. Tastes of malt, pears, flour, and sweat. Tasty.

Bomber. Aroma is really bretty; I smell Granny Smith apples. Pours cloudy golden with a medium white head with good retention; leaves spotty lace. Taste is sweet, peppery and lightly tart. Finishes dry. Flavors of white wine (sauvignon blanc) are noticeable. Highly carbonated with a medium body and a somewhat watery texture. Tasty.
