COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Epic Brewing Company’s latest barrel-aged beer brings something new—wild yeast. This brew is a collaboration ale with Crooked Stave Artisan Brewing of Fort Collins, Colorado. Chad Yakobson, Brewmaster/Owner of Crooked Stave, is well known for his skill and knowledge in the brewing of sour and Brettanomyces driven beers. The beer was brewed at Epic by the two brewers. Kevin Crompton, Epic’s Brewmaster, and Chad spent several weeks working on the recipe and selecting the proper Brett strains and barrels for the beer to morph from a golden Saison into a Saison-Brett Golden Ale.

Release #2. Aroma is fairly fruity with a lot of pineapple and cherry notes. Lighter aromas of pear and red apple cider. A light vinous oak note helps tie the fruitiness together. No real barnyard character. Pours a fairly clear hay colored yellow gold with a thin white head that quickly recedes to the edges. No lacing or legs. Flavor is slightly sweet upfront but there really isn’t much malt character. Lighter pineapple and cherry notes but still plenty of pear and red apples. A lot more oak nots to the flavor with a strong oak and white wine character. Medium light bitterness with a light alcohol spice in the finish. Lingering oak and white wine tannins with a hint of fruit and some grapes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium to medium high carbonation. Low tannic astringency and medium alcohol warmth. Overall I really enjoyed the aroma of this beer but I found the flavor to be a bit too dominated by the wine barrels. I also wish this beer were smaller as 9.5% is way too high for a saison.

This is fantastic, lots of smooth, floral body that gives a great old world flavor. The strong brett notes also really add and expound on that aged potpourri feel of the beer.

A - pours golden straw with an amber tinge. 2 finger white head that disappeared quickly. S - when the bottle is opened the bretts come on nice and strong up front. Nice white wine (bright pineappley) and white grapes come next. Grassy hops and pineapple are quietly wrapped in bretts. This smells fantastic. M - medium body. Sparkly spritzy carb. Nice bright mf. Lightly tart. Dry end. T - the taste is citrus and pineapple fruits on the front. Bretts, white wine and white grapes on the palate. The end is wheat, tart lemon, grasses and Brett. O - really nice. Better than expected. 3.9

Great aroma of funk and tart with some apple. Nice carbination, great flavor, and a sweet wine finish. Really great sour that isn’t overwhelming.
