2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Coffee, Fig, Coconut Oatmeal Stout. While this sounds like it should be divine I didn’t dig it for two reasons. One is that this is one of those stouts that is super dry and super super ashy, with very little sweetness or malt character to balance. The other is that it smells and tastes like burnt coffee. I couldn’t get any fig, coconut or oatmeal character and didn’t get very far before giving up on this incredibly astringent ashy beer.

Very nice beer. It has a great roast on the nose and a lovely look. Not the thickest stout but the flavours are beautiful and rolls nicely on the palate. Solid.

Pours a thin black with large foamy tan head. Aroma is mostly coffee, some chocolate and a mild fruity (fig?) aroma. Taste is mostly heavily roasted coffee, some dark bitter chocolate and dark red fruits. Decent stuff.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Draught at SBWF. Near black, small beige head. Tinny licorice aroma. Mid sweet with full body. Molasses, milk chocolate and tin dominates. Salty bitter finish. Too imperialized, with unwanted molasses-stickyness.

SBWF 2013. Black beer with a nice beige head. Nice coffee aroma, quite roasted, cocoa, figs, raisins, grapes, some soot, some caramel. Fresh coffee flavor, roasted, licorice, cocoa powder, figs, raisins, salty notes, some oranges. Nice body, nice coffee and raisin finish.

1.5 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20
Poured a rich burnt umber color with a big gaseous khaki foam. The nose was of charred coffee, green pepper and windex. The flavor was a bit more pleasant but that still disjointed and plain old wrong. Some coffee notes exist but the off notes are so apparent and reference the nose enough to render it undrinkable.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle - Vintage 2012 - Chocolate, coffee and dark fruit. Jet black with a rich brown head. Coffee, bitter chocolate, an interesting sweetness with a finish of roasted coffee bean. Although I don’t get full flavors of fig and coconut, this is a very robust, complex and nice beer to share. The coffee is very pronounced but not harshly. Nice.

Bottle shared with Yanick. Pours dark brown with tan head. Nose and taste of toasted coconut, flaked oats, coffee beans, cocoa and touch of unsweetened dark fruit. A touch vegetal at times. Mouth feel is chocolate grain. Lighter medium body.

A great brew with an awesome blend of fresh fruitiness and roasted robust coffee. Rich and silky smooth with tons of oatmeal and a bit of toasted coconut. Sweet and rich dessert like. A bit light in the body but warm and awesome.
