4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Very nice full flavoured imperial stout. Big coffee aroma dominates the stout. Couldn’t get a whole lot of the fig but there was a real pleasant sweetness that may be related? Regardless this was an awesome beer full of flavour.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
This brew pours black with a medium creamy beige head that diminishes steadily. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Roast malt, dark fruit and coconut in the nose. Medium-bodied with flavors of roast coffee, malt, figs and coconut. The finish is roasty with a coconut coffee aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at elbernays wedding. Black as you like, coffee tan head, nose is roasted malts, figs, coffee, sweet notes. Flavour carries all the aromas, big body, soft carbonation, lush mouthfeel, no sign of the big ABV. very enjoyable indeed.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
750mL Champagne bottle
Deep mahogany ale, holds a dense tan head.
Plenty to the nose; coffee bean, dark chocolate, dried fruit, fig jam.
Palate starts quite rich, smooth but dries out a fair bit, subdued carbonation.
Serious quantities of coffee on the body! Like chewing on a bean, add a touch of cocoa & fig skin to the mix and you’ve got a pretty intense flavour sensation. Bitter, slightly acrid finish.
Probably trying to do a bit too much with this beer, good, but coffee too dominant.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours pitch black with small tan head. Nose is heaps of coffee, a little fig jam, milk chocolate, toffee. Flavour is much the same. Mouthfeel is smooth but not a particularly heavy body or creamy mouthfeel. Amazing flavour, but let down a little by the body.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
From a bottle. Pours black with not much head, big coffee aroma and very rich bitter coffee flavours, not overly thick with no hint of the alcohol. Great stuff.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
750ml bottle from Archive Beer Boutique. Rating from March 2014. Shared with my wife as this beer is made with her favourite New Zealand coffee. Poured a dense thick black with a foaming tan cap. Aromas of coffee beans, toffee and malt. The was a dry finish with a faint fruitiness from the fig.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Visual: Pours ultra dark brown with smallish very foamy lasting head, some lacing, a bit of activity near the surface.
Nose: clean roasted coffee without much burntness, soft aroma. (lvl-5)-pungency
Attack: dark malts, silky texture
Mid-palate: fizzy-micro-tingly, (MAIN) big roasted coffee, fig dark fruitiness, cacao, thick malts
Finish: coconut nuttiness, roasted coffee exhale, malty sweet coffee bitter finish.
Summary: Big roasted coffee and figgy flavour with just enough ABV, body, texture and zero sourness. Composed and poised. One of my top 3 favourite stouts out of all the 50+ stouts I’ve tried.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
This beer combines two of my.favourite things. From the previous reviews, I was not expecting a nice flavour combination, as people seem to dislike the coffee flavour. However I did notice that many of those who did not like the coffee flavour are from North America, where the coffee style is largely different to NZ and Aus. It pours black with a tan head. I get a nice coffee aroma as if it has been cold pressed, a slight fig sweetness with some cocoa bitterness. The flavour is interesting, as through coffee and fig flavours both seem to emerge at once, rather than coming in stages like many flavoured beers do. Slightly oily texture but it goes down very smooth. I largely enjoyed this, although I would have liked a bit more fruit to carry in the taste
