Epic Brewing has been making high-strength beers in the land of low-strength (Utah). Rather than expand their operations there, they chose to open a 2nd brewery in a more encouraging state, Colorado. This is their first batch of beer brewed here in Denver. Big, fruity hop aromas.

Draft at Henry’s in Denver. Pours clear golden with a small white head and plenty of glass carbonation. The aroma has a nice piney lead with plenty of lemon, grapefruit notes. The taste has a nice citrusy flavor, medium bitterness, fairly dry finish.

Aroma of Mosiac hops (tropical fruits, passion fruit, pine), honey. Color is hazy pale golden yellow with a sense off white head. Flavor is pine, citrus, grass, a bit of papaya, toasted malts, nice finish, moderate pithy bitterness. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy mouthfeel. Really nice Mosaic IPA that?s easy to drink and very enjoyable.

12 oz. can, consumed on 8-29-15. Pours a hazy, pale gold. Moderate to large amount of cream-colored head. Produces good head and lacing, but I find the color boring. A good amount of suspended particulate in the final pour darkens the color to tan and adds an interesting element to the appearance that I appreciate. Mineral aroma. Grapefruit, lemon, mango, and squash scents. A bit of citric cat urine in the smell. Mango and watermelon flavors. A touch of lemon. Light, herbal hoppiness in the taste. Tastes better than it smells. Dry finish and aftertaste. Medium body. Smooth and soft in the palate. A very ordinary and boring IPA. It probably deserves a higher score than I’m giving it, because it’s an acceptable beer in one of my favorite styles, but I just find it utterly dull and unmemorable. This is a pleasant, floral, subtle IPA that is a good introduction to the style for people who think they don’t like bitter beers. Improves on multiple sips. This is not as good or outstanding as a Mosaic-hopped IPA should be, but the Mosaic hops do eventually impress. Improves as it warms, and, by the end, I have come to regret my statements about this beer being boring. It’s subtle and eventually even a bit interesting.

Almost clear gold beer, tidy white head. Palate is light with a fine crispness. Thin malts bring thin creamy sweetness. Tangy lemon and mild orange pith. A mild to medium bitterness before a light semi dry finish. Somehow feels quite English.
