22 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy dark reddish brown color with a nice 2 finger dense light khaki head with great retention that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Some decent spotty lacing on the glass. Aromas of chocolate, caramel, roasted malt, coffee, biscuit, citrus, and herbal hops. Some pretty standard porter aromas with decent strength and balance. Taste of chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, biscuit, herbal, coffee, and citrus. A decent amount of herbal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, biscuit, caramel, and citrus on the finish for a bit. Nice evenly balanced blend of roasted and hop flavors. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy mouthfeel. Very easy and smooth to drink; with almost no alcohol warming present on the finish. Overall this is a nice and straightforward porter. Nice balance of flavors and quite enjoyable.

Onslow (1130) - Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA - APR 4, 2012
Pour from a 22oz bottle. Dark brew with tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, cocoa, a little corn-like funk. Taste is dominated by the malts - sweet roasted malts, chocolate, coffee... starts sweet and finishes moderately sweet. Thin mouthfeel. Not bad but not a standout.

Pailhead (4574) - Brownstown, Michigan, USA - MAR 9, 2012
Bottle: The aroma consists of roast, chocolate, and nuts which are mixed with some musty/funky notes (brett-like?). It pours a dark brown with some faint orange highlights and a large beige head with good retention and lots of soapy lacing. The flavor starts with a quick dose of dark chocolate and caramel. The finish has light-moderate roasted and a hint of some funky lemon notes. It’s light-medium bodied with mild carbonation. Overall, it seems like the beginnings of an infection could be setting in.

Sammy (8354) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 3, 2012
Very drinkable porter. Nothing extreme, just a good balance of malt and bitterness, though would have liked somewhat more of the latter. Black, with complementary dark brown bubbly head. Some licorice in the aroma. Slightly above average mouthfeel.

Bottle. Pours black with brown head. Nose/taste of vanilla, lightly roasted chocolate malt, fresh coffee and earthy grains. Medium body.

Ernest (6143) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JAN 17, 2012
Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (cocoa powder, cereal, caramel, husks), lightly hoppy (herbs). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Not too much better than (or different from) the 825 State stout...clunky malt character, rather sweet. Meh.

From a bottle poured a brown color with a fair amount of head. Toasted malty flavor with a quick finish.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 12/23/11

Aroma: The nose is mostly roasted malts, with hints of chocolate, caramel, toast, and dark fruit
Appearance: It pours a dark brown-black color with a foamy beige head that dissipates quickly
Flavor: Heavily malty taste, with roasted and chocolate flavors, light coffee and toast, light bitterness
Palate: Medium body, decent mouthfeel, medium-heavy carbonation, with a slightly dry and slightly metallic finish
Overall Impression: I thought this was a fairly decent porter, but it wasn’t a standout. The flavors progress a bit as it warms, and some more character seems to rise. This is a solid Porter, but again, it is still nothing particularly great or memorable.

JMerritt (1767) - Macomb, Illinois, USA - DEC 21, 2011
Thanks to my friend Caryn for hooking me up with the bottle. Dark brown with garnet tints and a medium sized light brown head. Moderately roasty aroma with definite chocolate milk and iced coffee highlights. Iced coffee/cappuccino flavor follows - lightly roasted malts with earthy hops, light molasses and mild vanilla. Lightly carbonated, and the palate is a little weak, but that’s really the only ding against it. Solid, tasty porter overall.

Capa (1963) - Manama, BAHRAIN - NOV 30, 2011
Dark with a large tan head. Aroma is coffee, roasted coffee, cocoa, and a bit of sweet malt. Full body. Flavor has a decent helping of roast malt, but not quite stout like, dry-roast coffee, cocoa, light sweet brown sugar. Finish is a bit on the dry side. The fairly big body on this porter makes up a bit for its lack of, for lack of a better word, creativity. Still, it’s a good beer and easily something I would drink again.
