This wonderful hoppy lager is a new addition to our ever-expanding Exponential (Seasonal) Series. The Crystal hops give it a clean spice while the Calypso hops give it a pleasant, almost fruity aroma. Easy to drink, perfect for a summer day out.

Sampled on 3/19.2012. This Premium Lager pours a slightly hazy yellow gold color from a 22oz bottle. Medium to large sized white foamy head. The aroma is grassy/herbal, spicy and citrusy. A medium bodied Premium lager. The malts are cereal, grassy and spicy. The hops are floral, grapefruity and citrusy. Lively carbonation. Nice balance. Very lemony and slightly tart/acidic, there is also some spiciness going on here as well. Nice beer, a very drinkable lager. Crisp and refreshing, it would make a nice summer session beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter and spicy.

Pale gold, clear, white head. Aroma of pilsner malt, herbal and floral hops. Flavor again features pilsner malt, a little grainy sweetness, moderate spicy noble hop flavor with a little lingering bitterness in the finish. Very drinkable.

This one poured a clear light gold color with a white head. Aroma was of grass, pale malt, and light herbal hops. Flavor was similar unfortunately, not real hop character to make me think this is different than other pale lagers.

22 ounce bottle into pilsener glass; Release 7, bottled 5/24/2012. Pours hazy golden straw color with a 1 finger dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing on the glass; with a nice amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon, pear, apple, pepper, grass, floral, cracker, bready grain, and earthy hop spiciness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity. Taste of lemon, pear, apple, orange zest, floral, grass, cracker, bread, pepper, pine, and herbal hop spiciness. Fair amount of lemony pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, light fruits, floral, grass, pepper, cracker, bread, pine, and herbal hop spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice flavor balance with good complexity; good hop/malt balance; and almost zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a crisp, prickly, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with nearly zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very good hoppy pale lager. Nice hop/malt flavor balance with solid complexity; and extremely smooth and crisp to drink. I enjoyed this quite a bit, very well done.

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is medium yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (cracker, husks), lightly to moderately hoppy (resin, herbs), with light notes of soap, cat pee, and celery. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter, very husky. Medium body, watery/velvety texture, lively carbonation, slightly metallic. Wow, it’s hard to pick a winner between this and the Urban Chestnut zwickel (sampled in the same session)...this has more aroma hops to help cover up the problems, but the acrid pee-and-celery odor is pretty unpleasant (and I don’t care for the resinous hops anyway). This is shockingly husky in the finish (extremely unpleasant), so it loses in the flavor score. I guess if I was forced to drink one at gunpoint, it would be the zwickel. Since I’m not under duress, though, I’m going to wash my mouth out with some De Ranke instead.

Had from the bottle at the brewery. The nose is soft pilsner malts. Nice spicy/fruity hop character, grainy, slightly sweet. A tasty lager, one of the better lagers I have had.

Release #6 (5.5 ABV), Bottle. Pours a clear golden straw color with two fingers of rocky white head. Good retention and little thick lacing. Aroma is hoppy with malty, nutty undertones. Flavor is moderately hoppy up front, fading into mild nutty, malty tones. Slightly bitter finish that lingers. Moderate carbonation, light body, and a crisp texture. Initially I was unsure about the combination of lager yeast and hops, but was pleasantly surprised. Refreshing, nice hop profile, drinkable, an interesting beer.

Release #6: Pristine golden. Wispy, fine-bubbled white head. Enticingly hopcentric nose of lemon, nectarine, damp grass clippings, mint, and sugar-glazed spruce tips. Light mineral, uncured hay, cracker, and sugar cookie in there as well. Slightly soapy and alcoholic. Firm carbonation. Juicily hoppy and softly floral with a delectable surge of herbaceous spice and scratchy lemongrass. Feathery malt is quite clean and virtually weightless. No huskiness whatsoever, though a subtle wet-paper limpness is apparent. Smidgeon of honey-kissed Munichlike toastiness deepens the ever so bouncy pils base. Malt also contributes an uncured hay effect which artfully echoes the fresher grassiness of the hops. Flowery nectar abounds as it coats and soothes the palate before a hoppy dryness reemerges with its peppery pizazz. Zesty kumquat and some marmalade also pokes through. Wonderfully bright hop character, though the alcohol does stifle some of its luster and imparts some astringency. Note of sugar cookie and piecrust "edginess" gently brushes the palate in the well-attenuated finish, as a very soft and dainty pillow of malt gracefully cradles the intricate hoppiness. While the presence of alcohol is a bit overt, and the mild soapiness a hindrance to the aroma, this is very nicely executed. Quite dry, lean, and quaffable. Would love to see this available in six-packs here in the States!

Pour from a 22oz bottle. Cloudy light yellow brew with generous and thick white head. Looks a little like lemonade. Aroma of lemon grass, grassy hops, tart fruit, and a little grass. Taste is lemon grass, citrus, clean dry finish. A little malt at the very start, bitter in the finish is very light and aromatic with emphasis on citrus / lemon. Overall a very nice brew.
