COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hopulent IPA is a big beer with lots of complex malt flavor and excessive hops. This beer will have changes to the grain bill and seasonal hop changes. The character of Hopulent IPA is over the top, too much of everything—a real HOP HEADS DELIGHT!

Release # 23. Smells like a IPA, man, you know what I mean? Yeah, that’s what I’m talkin’ about. Very fruity, citrusy - mango, grapefruit, the usual suspects. Nice hop bitterness dominates the flavor, as it should. Tasty stuff.

Sample at a tasting at Suttree’s. Pours hazy orange with whitish head. The aroma is strong citrus- peach, mango, tangerine. The flavor is grapefruit, mango, ample amount of bitterness. Fruity finish. A solid American IPA.

22 ounce bottle. Batch #23 (brewed on June 14, 2011 as stated on Epic’s website), 8.6% ABV. Served in a snifter, the beer pours a hazy orange/gold color with an inch and a half frothy off-white head. The head retention is good, and there’s a lot of lacing left on the glass. Aroma is mostly citrusy hops (grapefruit, tropical fruit, orange peel), along with some pine hops and sweet malt. Taste is similar to the aroma, but the the pine and grassy hop flavors are stronger compared to the citrus hop and malty ones. There’s also a long lasting bitter finish. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s a bit slick with moderate carbonation. I think it’s a good brew, I’d like to try a fresher bottle of this next time.

Pours an amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is of caramel malts, and citrus hops. Flavor is pretty much the same with the strong flavor of citrus and pine hops and some caramel malts.

Bottle. Hazy dark orange pour, lasting creamy head and a rich orange hop aroma. Flavor has a nice maltly backbone, and then overpowering pine sol hops and bitters & boozy on the aftertaste. This beer probably would have been a bit better if the alcohol content were lower.

Pours a cloudy golden with a dense white head. Aroma is of pine, fruit, and orange peel. Strong bitter taste with a sweet background for balance.

Poured from a bottle. Appearance is a hazy gold with a thick cap of white foam. Aroma is sweet and hoppy. Taste is buttery and overly sweet. Too rich of a beer in my opinion.

Bottle from Gription79...thanks Dallas! Release #23 - Pours lightly hazy amber with a huge, foamy off-white head. Melon, citrus, and pine on the nose with a fruity malt base. A touch of alcohol, and some pretty oniony hops rear their head as this warms up a bit. I don’t mind those onion hops though--they remind me of New Glarus Thumbprint IIPA. The taste is more hop-dominant, with the malt fading into the background and the alcohol being more present. The onion hops are still present, and the grassiness really hits on the finish. It pretty sharp and hot. I expect some of that in a DIPA, but there’s a little too much of it. Carbonation is pretty nice, and it’s big, full-bodied and slick. Pretty good, but I just wish the hops were a little less oniony and hot in the taste.

22 ounce thanks to Gription79. Release #23. Big bitter nose and a nice pour. Mango and tropical fruit. Lingering sugar. Very nice. Excellent.

Release #23, 8.6% abv. Bottle from Gription79. Thanks! This pours an orange color with a lasting thick fluffy head on top. Good lacing. This has a nice citrus hop aroma. Some mango, grapefruit, and lemon, along with a little dough for the malt. A slick caramel malty body supports a strong citrus hop profile. Picking up pineapple here along with some of the tropical fruit from the aroma. Sticky pine and a leafy note works there way in there as this warms up a bit. Very sharp and bitter in the finish with lots of lingering hop oil. I thought this might be pretty good but it’s excellent.
