COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This tawny-orange ale immediately assults the senses with the character of hops from the Pacific Northwest. An aroma that combines grapefruit pith and pine resin foreshadows a strongly bitter beer. The flavor is spicy and juicy with citrus dominating over honey and floral notes, then giving way to a dry, chalky bitterness. The almost sweet finish is accentuated by the strength of the alcohol.

ben4321 (2227) - Hoboken, USA - SEP 5, 2011
Location: 22 oz bottle from Buy Rite - Jersey City, 9/5/11, Release #5

Aroma: The nose is orange, grapefruit, grass, and a subtle pine/resin component
Appearance: The pour is a cloudy orange color with small white head and good lacing
Flavor: The taste is balanced, medium sweet, citrusy, with a medium bitterness to it as well
Palate: The mouthfeel is slightly sticky, with a medium (leaning full) body, and a fairly dry finish
Overall Impression: Overall, I found this to be a decent DIPA. In this style, I would prefer that the pine/resin be a touch more prominent, but it was there. I would still say that this was a solid beer though, just not a top notch example of this style.

2 June 2012, bottle. Bright yellow, clear, no bubbles. Nose is skunky grassy hops. Thin body and mildly fizzy. More hops in taste than I was expecting but most of the bitterness kicks in in the finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

JaBier (3249) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - MAY 5, 2012
Sample as a bonus beer at the Smuttynose tasting at Ale Wine & Spirits on 4/27/12. Clear yellow/gold pour with a medium white head. Citrus and pine hops in the nose, with some sweet malt. Malty flavor with strong citrusy and piney hop presence and a sweet malt finish. I’ve been pretty much on the fence about this brewery since trying several of their beers, but this one is pushing me over to the fan side for sure.

Elwood (1974) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - APR 28, 2012
Serving: Draft at Fire Works Leesburg. It pours a cloudy, dirty orange with a small, white head. The nose is all hops. The flavor has lots of herbal, medium pine, and light tropical hop notes. Not much from the malt side. Long, bitter, and dry finish. Definitely west coast style.

socaltay (195) - Ventura, California, USA - APR 27, 2012
Release #16 8.9% ABV. Sampled from 22oz bomber. Appearance is very typical for a DIPA with a nice white head that fades away and leaves a little ring around the top of the beer. The aroma is soft pine note resins and sweet fruit notes. The taste follows the aroma very nicely and has a very full mouthfeel. Overall this is a great beer.

Bottle @ SF. Hazy yellow amber. Smells sweet and grapefruity and a touch piney. Tastes initially set them a little resinous with a nice bitter hop finish.

Sampled at Slutfest 3. Clear light amber copper pour with ring of offwhite head. Really not too sweet green woodsy citrus hop profite. Pretty decent actually.

Dogbrick (4842) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - APR 20, 2012
Sample at the House Wine EPIC beer tasting on 04/18/2012: This beer pours a hazy deep copper-orange color with a medium creamy white head that diminishes slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of hops, citrus and malt. Medium to full body with flavors of resiny hops, citrus and sweet malt. The finish is hoppy with a lingering grapefruit aftertaste. Pretty good overall.
