Big creamy to do impy - just missing the complexities and more ish qualities of the classics. Having said that this is an excellent second tier beer, well weighted between the roast and sweeter aspects.

Black body, faint tan head. Malty aroma, caramel and brown sugar. Slick, oily mouthfeel with a little bit of co2 tingyness. Taste is not very strong for an imperial stout. Fairly well balanced with a hint of bitterness. Roasted malts and some coffee flavours are there. It’s a very nice imperial stout, probably a good start for someone who wants to try out the style.

22 oz for $8.67. Pours jet black with a nice brown head. Looks great. Aroma is huge coffee, roasted malt and chocolate. Taste is similar with the coffee and chocolate flavors up front leading to a smokey flavor and smooth bitterness on the back end. Body is medium, texture slightly thinner than I like in an Imperial Stout. Overall this is quite good. Easy to drink and has great flavors. Recommended.

On tap the the Denver taproom. Black appearance with a tan head and light lacing. Aroma of bitter chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, bread and licorice. Similar flavor with a medium to full body and a lingering finish. Good, but not epic like the Big Bad Baptist.

MadRobin (2129) - Silver Spring, USA - DEC 20, 2013
Release #10, 11.1% ABV, poured from 22 oz. bottle. Opaque, near black with a 3-finger tan head and excellent lacing. Aroma of sweet roasted malt, chocolate, mild sweet dark fruit and a touch of coffee. While these words are descriptive of the aroma, it is more like a single aroma than a complex blend. I.e., these elements are mushed together. Taste of roasted malt, molasses, peat, roasted coffee, chocolate, dark fruit and alcohol. Nice complexity of flavors. Full body and low/medium carbonization. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
