Bottle: Release #8 Pours nearly black with a thin, dark head. Aroma of dark chocolate, roast coffee. Taste is sturdily malted with a strong, dark chocolate and coffee bitter. Slightly tingly, yet heavy bodied. A nice one.

Release #9 from Appalachian Vintner. Pours an opaque black from the bottle with a thin tan brown head and moderate lacing. Aroma of vanilla, dark chocolate, roasted malts, and a hint of booze. Taste was way more roasted than the sweet scent, but still nice with vanilla chocolate sweetness. Thick on the mouth with a hint of boozy burn. Wow, damn good.

22oz bottle, shared with Anthony. Release #8, 9.8% ABV. Black color, thin khaki head, leaves good lace. Big roasty malt flavor. Decent coffee, good bitter dark chocolate malts. Nice big bitter taste. Long roasty dark chocolate aftertaste. Great chewy texture, bigger body, light carbonation. Nothing special or outstanding about this, but a solid imperial stout, I’d say.

My bottle says: Release #5, 8.9% Alcohol by volume. Pours very dark brown, almost black, with a tan head. Aroma is dark and malty. Taste is smokey, notes of licorice, dark fruits, slightly sweet, and very complex. Long lasting palate. A very nice Imperial, very smooth and drinkable, thumbs up!

Cybercat (4082) - Georgia, USA - JAN 9, 2013
Smoky, oily aroma has notes of roast malt, semi-sweet chocolate and good coffee. It pours a deep, warm sable with a fairly thick and fine-bubbled tan head that leaves some generous lacing. Rich flavor has roast malt, chocolate, coffee and subtle hoppy notes. Firm, smooth texture is fairly fizzy, leaving a persistent smoky, slightly sweet and fairly tingly finish. Epic indeed!

Bottle, release #4, 2011. Pours a near pitch black color with a small head that lingers a bit. Aromas are caramel, coffee, chocolate, and light roast. Taste has a moderate sweetness and is not balanced well enough with the very minor roastiness and bitterness. Mostly caramel, chocolate, and coffee come through in the flavor. Finish is very smooth with a lingering caramel taste. Full body, smooth mouthfeel. Overall I like this Imp Stout but it has some flaws. Would love some more roast or bitterness to balance the sweetness.

Thisis12ptfont (997) - Los Angeles, CA, California, USA - DEC 21, 2012
Aromas of coffee, charcoal and molasses. Jet black in color with no foam. Strong coffee, chocolate, oats and resin. Very smokey in texture with a thick texture on the palate. Overall, this is a very drinkable and smooth stout with a lot of alcohol on the finish. Very well done. I’d give this an A rating.
