3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours pitch black and completely opaque with a two finger beige head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Sporadic streaks of lace left behind.
Deeply roasted dark malt aroma with subtle hints of earthy hops, peppery spice and dark fruit. Some resinous, piny hops countering hints of dark chocolate, coffee bean, toast and oatmeal. There’s also some licorice, dark fruit sweetness and some alcohol as it warms.
Medium bodied with some dry, earthy hop bitterness up front that lingers over the roasted and sweet malt notes into a dry finish. It’s surprisingly hop forward with grassy, resinous pine flavor followed by roasted dark chocolate malt, espresso bean, burnt toast and oatmeal. The roast is countered by hintsvof anise, licorice, dark fruit and boozy swetness. Really well balanced and the high ABV is well masked making this beer easy to drink.

Bottle [from trade with cavemanlawyer, huge thanks!] @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus. Opaque pitch black color, medium to full sized brown head that lasts for a long time and leaves perfect lacing. Wow. Aroma is malts, wood lightly, liquorice, a slight hint of coffee. Taste malts, roast, dark malts, liquorice and firm bitterness. Full body, medium carbonation. Solid imperial stout, not complex, pretty basic but a solid stout for sure.

Bottle @ benzai (10.8% according to the bottle). Black with a large brown head. Smells roasty, coffee, earthy. Tastes roasty, licorice, coffee, earthy, slightly soja, salmiak. Hint of vanilla in the aftertaste. Lasting taste, full body, soft carbo. Not spot on for me, but still a very nice brew.

Fresh bottle from the Annex. Dark brown with a huge brown head that lasts. Nice aroma like freshly baked chocolate brownies. Big flavor that brings in some espresso and cocoa powder. Slight alcohol burn. Big but tasty.

Poured a black color with two fingers of frothy tan head, which thinned out quickly. Good uneven layered lacing with some spottiness along the sides of the glass. Very good retention. (Sight - 4.13)
Smelled chocolate, roasty malts, toasty nuts, caramel, dark chocolate syrup, smoky cocoa spices, faint coffee malts and sweet toffee. (Smell - 3.88)
Tasted similar to the nose, but slightly better. Got chocolate syrup, rich roasty malts, dark cocoa, toasty nuts, caramel, toffee, rich coffee malts, smokiness and fudge. (Taste - 4.00)
Full body. Creamy-to-sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, bitter, slightly warming finish. (Feel - 4.13)
This beer really grew on me. I may have underrated it a tad, but either way this was a tasty double imperial stout. (Overall - 4.00)

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pitch black color with creamy light brown head. Nice roasted malt character with dark fruit, moderate sweetness, smooth velvety mouth. Low carbonation. Very full bodied. Lacks bitterness in the finish. Very approachable beer, but doesn’t take me anywhere that special and compared to Big Bad Bap this is a step down.
