4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tap at Denver Tap Room - not sure of the batch, but marked as 10.6% - black pour with a fluffy tan head - nose of anise, licorice, smoke, roast, light bitterness - full and bold, but ever so soft in the mouth - dense dark malts provide a balance of sweetness and roast - touches of smoke - light balancing acidity - earth, nori/seaweed, fennel seed - complex, balanced, delicious.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, batch #13, 10.1% ABV. Rich chocolate malt / bakerís chocolate with roast and savory black patent / soy sauce playing a softer but well-integrated role. Rich, creamy, seemingly dry, a little bit dirty / yeast. Beefy yet soft malt and carbonation. Fudge and cake-like with full, round mouth presence... Iím reminded of Thirsty Dog and Yeti and from the savoriness come memories of Stormaktsporter.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 ounce bottle
I didnít pay attention to which batch this was but the bottle is at least two years old. It has held up quite well. While not the greatest imperial stout or even average at least it is not a total drainpour. Maybe this is what happens when a brewery tries to expand too quickly too soon.
Aroma / Appearance - A reddish black base sits idly in the glass. Carbonated with a tannish head, the body contains a nice mixture of chocolate, coffee, and smoky plums. It is not very aggressive for an imperial stout but is in the ballpark.
Flavor / Palate - Chewy licorice, chocolate, and ash tickle the tongue. This does not feel thick at all. A hot peppery finish is warm and a bit distracting. The flaws may not be major but they are enough to take away from what could have been a more solid release. I may try some more Epic bottles when I find time but I am not in a hurry.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap @ Uber. Pours inky watery black with thin brown head. Aroma is dark roasty malt with chocolate and coffee notes. Taste is similar - smooth rich chocolatey malt, roasty and bitter on the finish. Not bad, but needs some barrel-aging!
