2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20 arondee (447) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - OCT 27, 2012Pours a golden orangish yellow with a big white head. Aroma is wheat and malts. The thing I hate about wheat beers is that they are inconsistent and they go bad fairly quickly. Unfortunately I think that’s the case here. It tastes like an old wheat beer, which means it’s gross and skunky. Sour wheat a lemon mostly in the taste. Gross.

Bottle. Pours a hazy golden color with a thick white head. Slight bit of a floral note to the nose, though it’s not strong. Light and easy on the palate, with just a faint hint of bitterness underlying a smooth finish.

Murky light honey pour with a solid ivory head that left some lacing. Aroma of cracked wheat, yeast, dough, and tropical fruit. Subtle mango, papaya, and guava accompany lemon grass, dusty hay, dough, and yeast. Definitely fruity notes in the flavor. Everything subtle and nothing off-putting. Decent for the style.

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle at the brewery. Solid wheat character, doughy, grainy, slight tartness, fruity, hint of green apple. Solid wheat beer.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 changeup45 (1559) - Mount Dora, Florida, USA - AUG 10, 2012
Bottle. Golden colored with a one finger white head that fades to a patchy thin layer. The aroma is mostly grassy and bready with just a touch of citrus in there. I pick up more of the lemon in the flavor but the body is thinner than expected. This gets jump started a little by some herbal hops that mix with wheat and stale bread. If they’re going for American style I’d prefer the hops to be more assertive. With that said, this is pretty solid for a hot day, which it certainly is today.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 emacgee (3433) - Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA - JUL 13, 2012
Pours a soft cloudy yellow with amber tints. One finger of frothy white head. Very mellow nose and muted aroma. Lightly citrusy and grassy with notes of hay and bread. Light tartness in the flavor, some citrus rind. Flavor is mellow too. Light to medium body with a dry/crisp finish.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 FlacoAlto (3450) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - APR 28, 2012
A solid pour into my Lost Abbey Teku glass produces an almost, two-finger thick, pale tan colored head. The beer is a pale amber / gold hue that shows an almost brilliantly clear, bright gold hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of hoppy tropical fruit notes that are backed by more hoppy herbal notes. Specific aromas of mango, tangelo, lychee, juicy fruit bubble-gum, and papaya play the dominant notes with hints of menthol, and perhaps a touch of pine rounding things out. The grain character plays a distant second to the hop character, but does contribute a hint of pale cracker like malt character. As the beer warms up the pale malt character gets a touch more expressive, it contributes a touch of dried grass / hay and reminds me of freshly crushed pale malt.
This has a solid, somewhat herbaceous bitterness to it up front, and has a nicely complimentary tart wheat character; this last is accentuated by the fruity hop character. Light and refreshing, and it has an effervescent carbonation to it, this is certainly a consummate hot weather beer; it has just a touch of body to it, enough to keep it from seeming overly thing, but not so much as to not make this eminently quaffable. The fruity hop notes aren’t quite as noticeable in the flavor as they were in the aroma, and this is due to the dry quality of this beer, but there are still noticeable notes of tangelo zest, lychee, sweet lemon zest, and a touch of tropical fruit character.
This is a nice American Wheat beer. I definitely like the fact that the dominant character is from the hops; having said that, this beer could use a bit more hop character for my particular tastes, but I have a feeling that wasn’t what the brewer was going for here. Speaking of unrealistic expectations, I would love to see a version of this fermented with a Saison Dupont derived yeast strain. Still, this is quite nice, and I wouldn’t mind having a few fresh pints of this on a hot summer’s day.
