COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We have set out to wilfully maim and cripple the palates of the most extreme hop head. This act of wanton destruction is in the true spirit of what festive brews are about, to create something unique and fun. It is our intention to create a violent and needless disturbance in your olfactory senses. The riotous confusion, from the unnatural quantity of dry hopping, will leave your palate satisfyingly violated after having just one taste. Only the brave can be assured to tame this hop insanity.

Draught. Pours amber with a medium off-white head. Huge hop aroma...grapefruit, passionfruit, lychee, grass and caramel malt. The flavour is caramel malt, grapefruit, berries, lychee. The malt bill is well balanced with the hops. Medium bodied and has a sticky mouthfeel but can’t help wanting another one. Great beer.

500mL bottle from Eureka in Dunedin. Hop explosion once the bottle is uncapped. Hops present as grapefruit, passionfruit and orange peel. Love the extreme bitterness... Amazing zesty orange flavours with a toffee malt base that can barely tolerate all the hops.. Awesome. MOAR!

Bottle. Pours a reddish amber with a large foamy off white head. Nose is flooded with fresh fruity hops, cut grass, and a hint of malt in the background. Not nearly the frontal assult of hops on the palate, a lot more cleverly melded with a malt that is caramalish at first, and then more chocolately in the finish. The finish is peppery and slightly puckering dryness. Like a suped up version of the Pale Ale.

Pours a brilliant gold with a fluffy white head. Big floral aroma of citrus with a huge hit of lychee.

Bottle bb 01/10 ? Clear red brown with good head retention. Aroma of nz saaz, peach and rose petal. NZ saaz flavour followed by crystal malt background, rose petal hop in the background. Unusual finish of dryness then sweet oily hop, alcohol seems higher than label. Overall a nice beer, needs more bitterness to balance out the nz saaz hop

2009 500ml bottle. Snifter. Pours a dark gold with a redish tinge. Shallow off white head that goes quickly. Very hoppy nose that hids a slight wild berry. Powerful hop flavour with a slight acid tang. Gental malt coming through later. Could do with a little more in the aftertaste.

2009 batch 500ml bottle. Pours clear amber golden, nice head on pouring but thins fast. Sweet fruits (apricot, tinned pineapple) in the aroma with an underlying hop hot/dryness. Viscious sweet mouthfeel, well weighted malt palate with the hot bite kicking in towards the finish. Resinous and biting enough to linger in the saliva for a few moments after. I’m a bit undecided - while I like this as a beer, and if it was the first release great, however I think it’s lacking some of the flourish, zing and in-your-face-ness of the same previous.

UPDATED: MAY 25, 2009 Epic Pale Ale on steoroids?? Reminds me very much about the plae ale, theres just more of it, morehops, more malt. same flavours. very good. edit: have re-tried Epic pale ale and this one is quite different, the pale ale is very american, mayhem has got more NZ hops going on.

Gorgeous hoppy nose, passionfruit in abundance. Lovely presentation in the glass, orangey brown body that says ’drink me’, bitterness in abundance but clears to a cleansing malt richness. Superb beer and all the better for Valentines day after my gf brought back a rigger for me from Wlg. Excellent drink

Tropical fruit (mango?) aroma, with a hint of spice and caramel? Amber, with a gentle, lingering white head. Tastes like it smells, but with more caramel and a hint of alcohol. Seemed a little sweet initially, but more bitterness comes through after a few sips. A hint of apple in the afertaste?
