We have set out to wilfully maim and cripple the palates of the most extreme hop head. This act of wanton destruction is in the true spirit of what festive brews are about, to create something unique and fun. It is our intention to create a violent and needless disturbance in your olfactory senses. The riotous confusion, from the unnatural quantity of dry hopping, will leave your palate satisfyingly violated after having just one taste. Only the brave can be assured to tame this hop insanity.

Pours clear amber with a fluffy off-white head. A hoppy aroma, yet not overpowering, with smokey malt and spicy sweet notes. Incredibly hoppy in flavour, as expected, yet smooth malt characters also come through strong. Citrus, spice and caramel come through to sweeten at the conclusion of every mouthful. However, it is the hop and malt bitterness which dominate, with the subtle sweet characters complementing these harsher flavours. A strong malty aftertaste though, slightly disappointing. Overall, the mayhem is complex, packed with flavour and incredibly drinkable.. Gorgeous.

From a 500ml bottle. Pours orange with a white lasting head, big full citrus flavours, resiny and smooth with a malty aroma. Nice work.

Bottled. New Zealand holiday 2011-12. Old notes. The aroma has heather/honey and flowery hops. Clear, copper coloured beer with a slight off-white head. The taste is bitter, light malty, citric and flowery. Nice.

Sample from bottle @sbwf13. Copper color with off white head. Aroma fruity and nice, as expected; sweet, fruit, melon and citrus. Taste is sweet, fruit, malt, caramel, sharp bitterness, melon, citrus and tropical fruit

Malt heavy - masks the hops. I prefer upfront mega hops and way less malt. But I appreciate the high quality of this brew. Malt lovers rejoice.

6/15/2011 Epic Mayhem... Aroma: Toasted grains, toffee, honey malt, faint hops. Appearance: Nice amber color; frothy beige head. Flavor: Light toffee maltiness; honey sweetness; earthy, slightly floral maltiness; balanced bittersweet; nothing earth-sharttering. Palate: Overall: This is a very English-style beer; New Zealand needs to go back "down under" and find some depth and flavor.

Has a nice aroma, citrusy. Appearance was amber, not the best head, fairly frothy, but not bad. Very tasty brew, bitter and hoppy, quite a sharp taste, very full taste. Not too fizzy, about right, with a bitter but full bodied finish. I thoroughly enjoyed this beer, was very nice.

Bottle. Pours caramel brown with a nice fluffy off-white head. Aroma was quite hoppy with pine, citrus, caramel and some grapefruit. Flavor was sweet & bitter with fruit, caramel, citrus, pine and had some mild herbal notes with a lingering bitter finish.

Copper pour with a decent off white head. Nose is piney, peach, citrus. Flavour is malty, deep, with citrus and stone fruit, mouth puckering slightly sour/bitter which gives way to long but fairly mild bitterness.

Another excellent hoppy ale from the good folks at Epic. The only problem is the internal competition - it is intense - and there are a couple of their other brews I rank higher. Not something I’d ever turn down though.
