COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A perfect beverage to relax with after a long day on the slopes, this extremely pleasant to drink ale has very minimal hop addition. The delicate Mt. Hood hops give it a smooth body with a bit of nuttiness and a slightly sweet malt at the end. This sessionable ale has some wonderful vanilla and honey notes that are well balanced throughout the drink.

UPDATED: MAR 6, 2014 Bottle (Denver batch 36, 4.9%). Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy light to medium amber. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, malt syrup, popcorn), lightly hoppy (flowers, apricot), with a light note of butter. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, slightly husky, slightly unclean. Light to medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation. Well fuck this shit...Epic keeps raising the ABV with every batch...it was 4.5% last summer, now the one I’ve got in my hand is 4.9%, and their website shows the latest (batch 40) is already up to 5.3%. Have they forgotten what style this was originally intended to be? Pretty soon they’ll cross the 6% barrier and call it an Imperial Mild. Last summer’s batch was a little husky, admittedly, but otherwise showed some promise. This is clunky and flawed. Perhaps partly due to the less skilled Denver brewer, but still...shame on you, Epic.

Sample from cask at the Big Tap In on 04/20/2013. Pours a hazy orange-gold color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of biscuit malt and hops. Light-bodied with flavors of bready malt, vanilla and mild hops. The finish is sweet with a biscuit malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

Firkin Fest 2013. Light copper color. Roasted grain both the flavor and aroma. It has good palate, which I generally find to be true of Epic beers. Good malt flavor and it is good to see this style for a change of pace.

Yellow-orange pour with a white head. Aroma is full of toffee and bread. Flavor is similar with some bread and toffee notes, as well as some grain and grass. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Caramel, bready malt aroma, with fruity English yeast and herbal hops. Nice balance of caramel, bread/toast, and sweet malt flavors. Can taste the cherry/apple-like fruity yeast, too. It’s unfiltered--so maybe that contributes to the flavor (which is tasty)? (Release #25)

Draft. Pours a slightly hazy orange/amber color with a medium sized white head. The aroma is sweeter biscuity malt with some citrus and floral hops. The flavor has a mild biscuit, orange citrus and light spices, very smooth and drinkable. Worth trying once and tasty for what it is.

On tap at Backcountry Pizza poured a hazy amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of carmel and earthiness. Palate was light bodied and smooth. Flavors of carmel and earthiness with a smoth lingering earthy finish.

10oz portion on tap. Kind of toasty malt character. Light citrusy hops, clear orange / amber color. Thin off-white head, fades to mostly minimal. Leaves a bit of lace. Medium / lighter body. More dry texture. Light to moderate carbonation, with a good crisper texture - but I think I prefer my milds a bit smoother. Nice mostly bitter taste (nothing like an IPA of course - more mild). Little tangy sweetness. A solid bitter, hoppy mild.

Draft to taster. Looks solid; a semi-transparent brownish-orange with foamy off-white lacing. Smells and tastes semi-sweet, doughy, and a little cidery. Average on the palate. Alright.

Draft. Poured hazy amber color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate citrus, dough and sweet malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable beer.
