A perfect beverage to relax with after a long day on the slopes, this extremely pleasant to drink ale has very minimal hop addition. The delicate Mt. Hood hops give it a smooth body with a bit of nuttiness and a slightly sweet malt at the end. This sessionable ale has some wonderful vanilla and honey notes that are well balanced throughout the drink.

On tap @ Epic (Denver). Pours a nice orange color with a white head. Nose is really chewy, toasty malt. Light grass, floral notes, and a good biscuit and dough note. Mild citrus. Flavor and mouthfeel are a bit watery. Sweet malt all the way. Chewy toast and dough. Biscuit, some orange, and a light floral character.

Tap @ the brewery. Pours a clear amber beer with a small off white head on top. Aroma is fairly mild hoppy and malty, nothing really extraordinary. Flavour is basically the same, mild and easy going. Not much more going on here.

Bottle from Utah Liquor Store. Pours brown with a thin khaki head. Has a bit of a tea smell to it. Smooth and slightly malty on the tongue. Finishes clean. It’s a mild ale for when you have to drink a lot of beer in one sitting.

Tap - turbid straw pour - mostly dry overall, with a lot of toasty grain, light mineral, light grass - biscuity middle and finish, with just a touch of vanilla and a hint of wood - creamy texture - medium body - the second best mild in town.

Batch 19. Pours with a clear, golden orange hued body with a medium sized, just barely off-white head. Aromas are of grainy malts, nuts, light plastic notes, grapenuts, lightly floral, honey. Flavors are of nutty notes, toasted biscuit, floral, a touch of citrus, unsweetened graham cracker, low esters. Malt forward, pretty sweet. Finishes with a medium bodied, medium-full carbonation. Decent, malty, somewhat session beer. A bit too sweet tasting and a touch dull though.

UPDATED: MAR 6, 2014 Bottle (Denver batch 36, 4.9%). Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy light to medium amber. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, malt syrup, popcorn), lightly hoppy (flowers, apricot), with a light note of butter. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, slightly husky, slightly unclean. Light to medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation. Well fuck this shit...Epic keeps raising the ABV with every batch...it was 4.5% last summer, now the one I’ve got in my hand is 4.9%, and their website shows the latest (batch 40) is already up to 5.3%. Have they forgotten what style this was originally intended to be? Pretty soon they’ll cross the 6% barrier and call it an Imperial Mild. Last summer’s batch was a little husky, admittedly, but otherwise showed some promise. This is clunky and flawed. Perhaps partly due to the less skilled Denver brewer, but still...shame on you, Epic.
