COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This rich, golden beer has an aroma of sweet malt and citrus and an immaculate balance of creamy malt sweetness and fruit and citrus in the flavour, developing into a truly epic hop finish and lingering bitterness.

Cask version brewed for the Weterspoons international beer festival 2009

Handpulled and gravity cask at several JDW houses during spring fest. Light copper with an off white head. Noticably darker than the bottled version. Less assertive than I expected but I grew to appreciate this beer after a few pints. The cascade hops were at their most noticable when I sampled it on gravity at JDW Hatch End. Maybe the higher temperature or lack of sparkler but my rating is based on this sample.

Spoons Fest. Clear amber beer. Soft and semi dry palate. Hop dominated but well balanced. Not really that bitter. Light grapefruit and a little pineapple. Light and easy drinking pale ale.

A Mes rate. Cask handpull at the New Crown.
Awesome golden brown and clean. No head but it’s fresh as hell so it will come. Big big hops. Glorious fruit and grass. Citric as hell. Fantastic bitter finish carried really well by some lightly sweet malt. Excellent beer.

Cask, Last Plantagenet, Leicester. Golden with white head. Aromas are apricot jam with spicy, fresh hops. Light pine. Flavours are very fruity with a jammy sweetness. Dry and lightly woody with grapefruit bitterness. Decent but not as good as I expected.

Cask at Victoria station W’Spoons. Golden beer with thin head. Crisp, fruity, hoppy and definite grapefruit presence. I was expecting more of a hop punch as I have heard good things about the original from a Kiw work colleague. One of the better offerings from the Spoons festival.

Cask handpull pre-work cheeky, live from Hinckley Spoons. 31st of the 50 festival beers for me, and the only tick in the house. Dusty honey amber with a dense white collar once it’s settled down. Muted resiny citrus aroma at first with faint greenhouse notes breaking out; good squeeze of grapefruit and lemon jelly once it’s warmed up. Silky mandarin tang on the palate, conditioning very still and Burtonesque; not at all aggressive, but plenty of lemon and lime jelly and tinned mandarin hop; pale woodsy malt and a hint of oak to balance it. Chlorophyll dabs on the burp. The hops fade a bit over the course of a pint and vanilla sweetness takes over. Not the hop beast you might expect with 25 wrung into each pint, but something altogether more soft, grassy, gelatinous and nuanced, and no lesser a beer because of it.

Cask in the new crown and in the alfread herring. Alround rating: I got 3 bottles off luke while he was over and got to try them all v cask, they are both great and vwery similar. Citrusy pine, grapefruity aroma, caramalt sweetness is really appealing but the bitter citrusy fruity and leafy dryness is excellent.

(Cask at Penderel’s Oak JDW, Holborn, London, 15 Apr 2009) Copper colour with frothy, beige head. Fruity, malty nose with citrus and grapefruit. Fruity taste with notes of citrus, grapefruit, biscuity malt and a generous bite of Cascade hops in the finish. Balanced bitterness, fairly dry. Very nice beer with a fresh, hoppy taste.

Cask conditioned handpump Roebuck Nottingham A golden beer with a white head and lacing. A pleasant enough hoppy aroma with a bit of caramel. Clean in the mouth and restrained. Hops just about there but not obviously cascade and certainly not as heavily hopped as we were lead to believe. No more than decent
