You can only drink so many beers in a lifetime, so you better make each one count. Thatís where we can help. Because at Epic weíre obsessed with creating big hop-fuelled beers. This takes a shed-load of skill. It also takes a shed-load of hops. In fact there are 15 crammed into this bottle. Many brewers would call that insane. We call it flavour.

Iíd been avoiding this beer, until of course it won a medal in a recent beer awards thing, at which point I thought I was being contrary and picky. Turns out not so much. Although this has a lovely hop aroma and a great colour it is a bit thin and really needs some food to bolster and prop it up. In its favour it is easy drinking and the aroma and bite are always welcome. Finishes towards dry.

A Ponsy New Age Pale Ale type that kiwi brewers have mastered better than most. Complex aroma with fruity ,grassy, citrus notes and more. Well balanced sweet/sour taste that makes me want more. A superb ale.

Bottle from Brothers Beer, Auckland, August 2014. Clear amber with a white head. Fairly relaxed with hops, grass, some light malt. The finish was on the dry side with a hoppy bitter finish.

UPDATED: SEP 1, 2014 Iím drinking this with fresh bluff oysters accompaniment. Yum. I like this Pale Ale, itís smooth, tasty and has a creamy finish, with little bitterness. Enjoying immensely with the last batch of fresh oysters for this season, compliments them well.

Pours a see-through copper color with a nice white head. The aroma is sweet malt, caramel candies, and grassy hops. The taste has good hop flavor but itís not all that bitter. Sweet grass, copper, caramel malts, very refreshing and light. The mouthfeel is a little creamy, just the right amount of carbonation. The Pale Ale from NZ is really good. Iím impressed.

A nice pine and resin aroma. Amber body, white head. Quite a nice bitterness to this. Overall a quality APA.

Very very hoppy aroma. Golden colour, clousy with fluffy bubbly head. Bitter up front, very hoppy with slightly floral finish. Medium to heavy body with medium carbonation.

Iíve been wanting to review this one for a while as itís in probably my top two or three pal aleís but have been waiting to get my hands on a fresher sample. Unfortunately The best of several samples has still been about two months out from BB date. Ok so a lot of the hops nose (not much at all), dry hop/late boil flavour and Iím assuming some of the BUís had faded in all of my samples but I still got a reasonable amount of citrus, grapefruit taste and a slight peppery spiciness, which I like a lot as well as a pleasant late bitterness that was not overpowering at all. In all cases the bottle has been poured at the bar, strait out of the fridge and in my opinion poured far to cold. Most of these types of beers donít respond well to this and the head retention and lacing suffers, which it did in my case but itís probably unfair to the brewer to judge a beer on this when it was poured incorrectly. Nevertheless this is a quality beer even late in itís life. The English malt character and the big American hops work very well together. Itís probably a bit maltier than the typical APA but who cares and besides this probably would not be an issue in a fresh batch. Bottom line, this is a quality beer and I wish I could get it fresher and in six or even four pack form to bring home and enjoy. When I get a fresh sample I will more than likely be amending this review.
