| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 14, 2007 Updated: Dec 31, 2008re-re-rated...oh thank god several good ones! Re-rated 31/10 after quite a few ’bad-uns’ i thought i’d get a really fresh bottle and give this a good re-rating....great nose! aroma is everything i’d want from this style of beer it’s a pity that the great citrus aromas don’t follow through to the flavour as much as they could, seems to suffer from a thin salty body that perhaps can’t support the hop flavours, the finish is bitter and slightly acrid/metallic. All in all a beer that smells great and looks great but isn’t supported by great flavours. Gotta say when i first read about this beer i thought...yeah yeah another brewer talking up the usual weasel piss they produce....wow was i wrong! I love it when things live up to the hype! Great beer, loads of flavour...malt, hops the lot with a great nose. phaleslu (592), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 19, 2009 Draft at Brew on Quay in downtown Auckland. Looking to improve upon his Speights Pale Ale, my buddy then ordered the Epic and wasn’t disappointed. Pours an attractive amber with a medium eggshell white head. Huge piney hop aroma, with notes of caramel, orange citrus, and malt. The flavor follows suit, but doesn’t pack as much punch. That’s just fine, as it’s well-balanced- simple, crisp, bitter, and satisfying. An excellent APA. donfardz64 (447), Wellington, New Zealand
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 20, 2008 Rigger from regional. My favourite of the regular brewed Epic beers. Pours a red/amber with a white head. Strong hoppy aromas dominate. Main flavour is hops, bringing a nice bitterness but not making it too much. The lovely flavours linger after every sip making you want more and more. reviled (12), Auckland, New Zealand
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 1, 2009 Have had on tap and in bottles, prefer it on tap personally as it seems more thin bodied out of the bottle. Pours crystal clear with a nice white fluffy head. Big hop aroma with massive citrus notes. Flavour comes through as a fairly hefty bitterness with a slightly dry finish which lingers on the toungue. Goes down exceptionally well in the warm weather. DonBirnam (90), Wellington, New Zealand
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 4, 2009 On tap and from bottle. A deep amber-orange. Has a wonderful citrusy aroma and flavour. orange peel hop dominates. one of my favourite brews and one of the first NZ craft beers I ever tried. I call it "my old friend whom I don’t visit often enough", because I am constantly passing over it in favour of something I haven’t tried before. BeerChaser0078 (391), Melbourne, Australia
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 13, 2009 Bottle. Pours clear amber with a nice creamy off-white head. Aroma is certainly hoppy and has notes of lemon, grapefruit, lavender, musk and caramel. Flavour is not as strong as the aroma suggests but isn’t exactly mild either. There is still loads of hops as well as flavours of malt, citrus and caramel standing out and a touch of peppery spiciness. Quite dry in the mouth with a nice amount of bitterness and a medium long finish. Not quite as big (epic?) as the Armageddon but a great beer in its own right.
