500mL bottle, BB 19.10.11 (Oct 19th? I’m only a month late) from College Liquors in Grand Junction. Clear brown with a moderate beige head, fair retention. The nose is nice and smoky--even a bit peated--with some fruity tangy cherryish notes, pipe tobacco, chocolate and light pepper behind. There’s something a bit nutty in there as well. The flavor is a bit metallic, and the smoke turns a bit harsh and campfire ashy. Some fruity tang otherwise. Dry finish, bitterness peaks at a 5. Moderate carbonation with a light to medium body. Despite the ashy burnt notes and the higher than expected bitterness, I quite enjoyed this one.

Thanks to butters for this, what was for me the last of the Richmond 16th, although things kept rolling long after I left. Smoky, hot spicy aroma. Flavor was that of a chocolatey porter with a strong spicy and smoke accent. Not bad, but not sure how much of this I could drink. Nice to see this collaboration though.

Bottle shared by Butters at the 16th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering, 11/5/11. Pours a clear brown color with a thin tan head. Fair head retention. Aroma of smoke, chocolate and brown sugar. The taste is smoke, chocolate, roasted malts, plum-like fruit notes and a bit of an acidic note. Medium bodied. Interesting.

Bottle thanks to JCB. Pours dark brown with a two-finger light tan head. Nose of roasted grain, smoke, and earthy notes. Tastes similar, but with a fairly noticeable metallic taste, at least until the head died down. Didn’t really like this at all until the head died down and it warmed a bit. Pretty good at the end. Mad overpriced, though.

Sampled at the the Sweet Sixteen Richmond Gathering. Sampled with the other 5 in the series. I think closer to a schwarz. Slightly smoky and earthy and roasty and toasty, smooth; and dan is an asshole, but the beer is pretty tasty. Don’t taste the tomatoes, but still a pretty damn tasty.

Bottle. Dark brown with tan foamy head. Smells smoky and sweet. Not sure if the herb aromas are just from suggestibility. Tastes just like it smells I actually like it ok..

After watching the brewers at dogfishead on tv I was very keen to try this beer. It smelt fantastic with the smokey aromas, the taste was smooth with lots of wood/smoke flavours. However I was left a little bit underwhelmed. I would recommend the norweigan wood smoked beers instead. Still a great beer though.

Dark-brown in color with minimal tan head. This beer started of with a noticeable citrusy-tangy note. Im guessing that is supposed to be due to the tamarillo in the beer. This beer also has noticeable chocolate and smokey notes as well and finishes kind of bitter. overall a good beer if yu can find it
