Bottle from Release # 11. Pours with a hazed, chestnut brown (relatively light hued brown) with a just off-white head with decent retention and good lace. Aromas are malty, bready, a bit spicy, rye bread, nutty, lightly herbal, very low earth, some citrus. Not much yeast character. Flavors are bready, malty, nutty, clean. Slightly oily mouthfeel which is a bit odd. Quite dry, spicy, low carbonic bite. A touch of currant or fruit ester (mild) in the finish. Lively bubbles, pretty dry. Straight forward, good, spicy brown ale like beer.

Body is medium, malty and sweetish flavor, some caramel/light bread, light fruitiness, some grapefruit hoppyness. Very malty start with a crisp light hop finish. Color is pale brown with little head. Aroma of rye with background sweetness. Not a bad beer for downing a few, but just don’t expect a very exciting and bold rye beer. For that, go with Founders Red Rye or Hop Rod Rye.

Amber and clear. Bready, yeasty aroma with some light hopping, floral and slightly fruit. Flavor thins out a bit but is biscuity with a few light spice notes. Easy drinking but not rich. Still, a good value at $3.99.

This isn’t that great. The flavor is a bit plain for a rye beer and it looks like dirty water. Ho-hum.
