3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the Denver brewery. Deep, dark brown appearance with a tan head. Aroma of roast, dark malts, nuts, earthy hops, chocolate, coffee, caramel and toffee. Similar flavor, rich with mild sweetness and medium resinous hop bitterness. Medium bodied, a nice hoppy brown ale/black IPA.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Epic taproom, GABF week 2014. Good malt flavor with some nuts. Dry and earthy. One of the better brown ales, but there is only so much that can be done with this style.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
My bottle was release two, two years old at the the time I opened it. This bottle of beer was fantastic. It poured dark brown with creamy foam, and the aroma was rich malt, apple-butter, caramel, mild coffee. The flavor added bready and nutty notes, and kind of a burnt-popcorn thing in the background, with some hoppy tingle on the finish. This was delicious.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
651 ml. bottle. Release #8. DEN# 1426. Pours a medium, well retained light beige head, with extensive lacing, over a clear reddish brown (SRM 25) body....nose is cocoa, chocolate, light coffee, light herbal tones, no esters, balance to the roasted malts.....taste is moderate cocoa, chocolate, light coffee, dry throughout, light pine, citrus peel, no esters, finishing with a moderate bitterness, balance to the malts....mouth feel, light of medium body, slightly astringent, no alcohol, carbonation makes slight creaminess. This lacks the mid roasted malt tones often found in Brown Ales. The correction would be to add back more caramel/crystal malts. The hops while obviously present are not quite "American" enough in presentation, so perhaps a bit of rejiggering of the recipe would lead to improvement. This is NOT a bad beer, it just can be made better. BJCP 7/3/14/4/6

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours a deep dark brown with a huge tan head that lingers. Aroma is malty with citrus hops, wood, burnt toast. Taste is a bit weak, of roasted malt, wood, and a hint of citrus hops. Lingering light toast. Not bad.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Not much hop aroma but grain nose. Hop bit and grain on the tongue. Malty more than sweet. Hoppy and malty hand in hand. Very nice head. Okay overall.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
SLC bottle from release #10. Fairly dark brown color with a big, foamy chocolate milk head that lasts a long time. Aroma is mostly hops with a hint of chocolate malt in the end. Big hops in the flavor but it does include some dark malt. Finishes with a lingering bitterness. Pretty much a "brown ale" in name only for me because this seems like a black IPA. Tasty.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a clear maroon brown. Hardly any head or lacing. Oak earthiness on the nose. Brown sugar, molasses, cinnamon, decent hoppy bitterness (for a brown ale). Overall, pretty good stuff.
