Clear brown pour with fair tan head. Caramel and pecan quickly become dominated by the lovely pine/earth hoppiness. Lingering semi-bitterness on the finish. Decent brown base with a nice pleasant earthy hoppy surprise twist. Enjoyed this quite a bit.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Growler filled at Angel’s Trumpet pours with a dark brown body supporting a nice looking quarter inch tall light mocha colored head of foam. The aroma offers up a mix of roasted malts and sweet malts. Behind those notes are thin rings of nuttiness, earthy malts and faint hops that seem somewhat pine like. The taste is straight up smooth and creamy on the palate with roasted malts and faintly burnt malts that give way to chocolate and then dark roasted coffee. Midway and on to the finish the malt roastiness surges forward while a pine hop note surfaces. Damn, this is rich and smooth and creamy seemingly like an Imperial Brown or something. Well done. This is not your typical boring Brown.

On tap at the Yokohama Brewer’s Cup. It pour a dark slightly muddy brown with an off-white head which left good lacing behind. A somewhat hoppy brown, fairly well balanced. A nice everyday bitter brown beer.

22. Pours a murky dark brown with a dense and creamy tan head that falls quickly to a flat disc, which then sticks around for a while. Lots of eggy lace. Mild molasses nose, soft pine and herbal hop notes. Creamy medium body with soft carb. Brown bread crust and molasses mid palate with a mild herbal hop finish. Very well made, but they’re overselling it by calling it "hoppy" on the label.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bomber from EZ. Poured a super dark brown with an unimpressive beige head that originally looked frothy than changed to a more creamy style. Aroma is a bit to sweet with lots of sugary chocolate along with cream, well done brown toast, Tootsie Roll and some vanilla. The body is full and creamy along with stronger carbonation and a bitter finish. Flavor is far les sweet than the aroma with notes of dry chocolate, brown toast, hint of coffee beans, vanilla and some chocolate malts. Tasty for a brown ale.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber, release #3, 7.25 ABV. Pours dark brown with a bit of red in the light. Thick light brown head that recedes leaving nice lacing. Aroma is grass and pine, a hint of molasses. Taste is bitter hops, pine, juniper. Nice sweetness in the finish to balance it out. I’m not a big fan of brown ales so this was a pleasant surprise, glad I tried it.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: APR 27, 2013 Release #6, w/ Apollo and Mosaic hops: Citrus, nectarine, berry, herbal/earthy hop aroma and flavor. Nice balance of sweet, bready, and roasted malt flavors.
Fruity, herbal, sort of minty hop aroma, with some bready malt. Similar hop flavor: nice apple-ish fruit and spiciness, plus some floral flavor. bread/bread crust, sweet, light caramel/sweet and light roasted malt flavors. A little of the weird herbal/acrid character that "Black IPAs" can have--but not much. Pretty heavy, creamy mouthfeel. Some bitterness and a little astringency in aftertaste.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22oz bomber. Batch #2, 6.8% ABV. Deep brown-black body, with a massive, lacy beige head. Deep, chocolaty brown ale, with a nice steady hop backbone..approaches Black IPA sometimes in it’s slick specialty malt tones, but has enough of a nutty, caramel taste to keep it grounded in Brown. Unfiltered and yeasty, creamy and mellow for the ABV. Really good beer.
