3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle... Cloudy copper pour with a small, fat-bubbled, lightly-tanned head. The bouquet offers components of smoke, candied dark fruits, raisins, dates and dried plums. I’m pulling some smoke, but not as much as I would like. Full-bodied and silky with tingly carbonation. Sweet, spicy and vinous, there is very little smoke to be found in the flavor. Notes of vanilla, oak, crusted port and bourbon are the highpoints here. Tannic, spicy, dry finish that provides very little in the way of smoke. I was hoping for much more, but that doesn’t affect the quality of the brew. Well-constructed, but not really my thing. Bottle courtesy of biggsbowler!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
651 ml. bottle.Release #29. 11.4% ABV. DEN # 1516. Pours a medium, tiny bubbled, poorly retained, ivory head, over a very slightly hazy, reddish amber (SRM 18) body.....nose is light smoke, sweet dried fruits including plum raisin, minimal spice, no hop notes, balance to the malts....taste is sweet, with plum, raisin, treacle, dried cherry notes, very light smoke, minimal wood notes, whiskey, slight herbal bitterness on the finish, minimal esters.......mouth feel, body light of medium, sticky, alcohol warmth present, carbonation adds tingle. This particular release is sweet, with the result that the malt backbone stands out more, than the smoke, barrel, yeast and hop. The result is a beer whose delightfully complex components do not have the ability to all shine equally. Allow this to reach a cool cellar temperature to fully appreciate. BJCP 7/3/15/4/7

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pretty disappointing. Whatever faint aroma there is consists of: caramel, floral hops, cheese, alcohol, and cooked vegetables... not so bad. Ugly appearance: hazy, orange, no head with lots of suspended particles. This shit just sucks.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
[From backlog] Bottle @ Home.
A: stort, smakrikt, välgjort och farligt lättdrucket. Över förväntan. Både våghalsigt, elegant och moget på samma gång.

3.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
5oz taster at the brewpub. This is beer for beer-lovers. Pours a cloudy copper. It’s a balanced yet complex beer with a lot of different tastes. I get the cherries at the end, and the scotch a little, but the peat less. Palate is interesting, not strong through the beginning and middle, but a strong finisher. Recommended.

4.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
This tastes like cherry plum brandy, but on a rich, woodsy, frothy frame. It’s amazing how fruity it turns out, with woodiness, caramel, and sweet roasty-toastiness showing rare sides to themselves. There is a twist of bitters to keep it honest. The texture is a delight - - smooth, fine, zesty, supple carbonation. I know I’m going bonkers with the adjectives here, but it’s deserved. Yes, there is a booziness to it. A triumphal, swaggering booziness.

On tap at O’Riley & Conways, pours a murky amber with a thin head, the aroma of of slight caramel and sweetness with some oak and smoke notes coming through too, the flavor has some spices at first with a oaky finish that is sweet at the same time, not bad.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Muddy dull amber. Aroma has bubblegum, sugars, touch of smoke. Rich almost scotch-like character, sweet, vinous and gentle smoke. Lots of booze, though. One of those quintessentially messy Am strongs.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On draft. This is so Americanized that there’s not much trace of underlying Belgian anything. Sweet smoke aroma, much less sweet taste. Flavors of caramel and peat, slightly immature-Scotchy finish. Nice twist on a rauchbier.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
650 ml. release #23, 11.0% abv. Pours copper with lots of mid-size chunks and sea monkeys. Only a small spit of bubbles. Nose is dark toffee, raisin, grape and red wine. Tastes of orange chocolate, raisin, caramel, merlot, smoke and berry. Long finish shows some charred oak barrel. Medium-heavy body is smooth with low-medium carbonation and shows just a hint of the abv. This is such a great tasting Quad that seems the best clone of a Rochefort 10 that I almost hesitate to quibble that the advertised smokiness seems a bit lacking.
