Bottle 65 cl. Pours an opaque orangey brown with a creamy beige head. Roast and subtle smoke - Bamberg style - in the nose - a hint of diacetyl? Medium body, sweet roast, licorice, ashes and again quite some smoke. Rather bitter finish, I believe it’s from both scorched malts and hops. Drinkable even for a non smoked beer love as me. 100912

Bomber. Pours root beer brown with a collapsing beige head. Aroma consists of campfire, smoked ham--a little too muted. Taste, thankfully, is much smokier than the aroma let on (give me maxium smoke, please). Along with the smoke, there’s some dark fruit and raisin flavors. Highly carbonated and medium-bodied. A good brew, but not in the ranks of the best smoked beers I’ve had.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 8/13/12, Release #6, 5.7% ABV

Aroma: The nose is heavy on the smoked malts, some meat, chocolate, and hints of peat
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a small light brown head and some mid-plus lacework
Flavor: The taste is much the same, it is heavy smoked, rather malty, and has just a hint of hop bitterness
Palate: The body is medium-plus, the feel is clean and slightly watery, with an average carbonation
Overall Impression: So this one has definitely been hiding in the back of the cellar for a while, but that was semi-intentional with this style. It seems to have aged just fine, though I’d be surprised if it developed too much, as it still feels somewhat under-developed. Overall, the smoke is definitely the defining component of this one. This is some decent, but somewhat unexciting beer.

Fresh hops, and (oddly enough) ham on the aroma. Deep, dark brown in color with a moderate sized tan foam. Flavor is very smokey and honey filled. Hops are definitely present among an odd smoked ham flavor. Decent carbonation and a medium body. Overall, it’s a decent brew but the ham flavor and aroma is very bothersome. Some booze on the finish. I’d give this a C rating.

Bomber. Poured cola brown with a short-ish khaki head. The aroma picked up sweet, roasty black patent and lesser smoky malts.. just a little detergenty hop accent.. simple, but sufficient. The flavor found similar stuff.. ashy black patent malt and a little vanilla at the core.. more earthy vanilla bean and dry smoke extending outward.. tacky black malt and light smoke on the finish. Light-medium bodied and roasty on the palate.. very drinkable, but it needed a little more substance.

22oz Release #2 bomber pours mahogany with ruby red edges and lasting light tan head that leaves behind some sheet lacing. The aroma pumps out roasted malts, bready malts, a touch of spicy black licorice and soft rauch-y smoked malts. The taste has a pretty rich sweet maltiness as well as roasted malts rolling into some earthiness and smooth smoky rauch malts. Into the finish it stays dark and roasty with subtle smoky rauch malts and a light sense of peat too.

Big thanks to ygtbsm94 for sharing this at last night’s tasting. Served in a SAVOR wine glass. Pours a very dark brown with a short off-white head and a bit of lacing. The nose brings some heavy smoke and a bit of peat atop a bottle of roast and light chocolate. The flavor is quite smokey as well, and that really takes over the rest of the beer. The body is a bit thin with lots of smoke. Just not enough balance in this one.

THOUGHTS: Not bad. I was hoping for something a little more extreme, but this was just well-made and easy to drink. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brown with deep red highlights and an average, off-white head that mostly diminished and left excellent lacing. The aroma was nice but was a little weak compared to the flavor. There was light to moderate roasted malts and chocolate; hints of coffee; light to moderate orange citrus hops; smoke; slight cola; slight beef jerky; and slightly orangey. The initial flavor was light to mod sweet and slightly bitter; while the finish was moderately sweet, mot to heavily bitter, slightly sour, a little salty and slightly acidic with an average to long duration. There was roasted malt, smoke, a little dark chocolate, slight cola, cherry, a little bit of other fruit, caramel, a little orange, hints of tobacco, a little tar, some citrus hops, hints of Bar-B-Q-sauce and a little salt. The medium body was sort of creamy, sticky on the lips and then a little dry with fizzy carbonation and a slightly metallic finish.
