This nostalgic porter evokes memories of chocolate and coffee around a campfire.· The cherry wood smoked malt used in this beer gives it a heavy smokiness that blends smoothly into the chocolate malty body.· With a silky finish this porter is ideal for sipping on a cold winters eve.

Just grabbed one off the shelf. Pours a slightly translucent brown, off-white tan head. The nose is smoky, bitter, with a slight sweet malt in there, towards the back, kind of casky. Tastes upfront woody bitter, smoky a bit artificial, sweet porter malt lacking the character roastyness. Woody bitter taste a bit harsh on first swig, but backs off after consecutive drinks. Interesting to be sure. I liked it overall.

August 27th, 2014 - The last two tasters on the menu were brilliant, and now we move to a third, hoping for a triumvirate of beer glory. This time, the Smoked Porter, sits more stoically in the glass, though still kicking up a small dash of foam. The nose is bold, chalky, cool, and with lots of milk chocolate. The palate is smooth, and very light and gentle on the palate, with an ephemeral smoked quality, and a short aftertaste. The body here is exceedingly thin. Not watery, not gruelish, just thin and delicate, like origami paper, and maybe just a bit too thin for my personal preference. But it is a novel approach as far as I can remember, and likely has defenders who like the delicate tastes a porter can offer with a more quenching body.

Near black. Nose of cola, cocoa, dark fruit, and light charcoal. Flavor is dark fruit and bitter chocolate with mild roast and mild background smoke/charcoal. Lingering fruit and faint roast. Not overly smokey, but enough to add character. Pretty nice.

Bottle. Chocolate body, soft woody smoke, only a tad of roast. Very malty, initially slightly fruity, with a bitter and dry finish evolving from a mix of hops, roast and smoke. Excellent.

A 22oz bomber from release batch #33 with a brew date of 2nd March 2015 and a packaged date of 16th March 2015 and poured into a Spiegelau stout glass. It poured a deep dark brown with amber hues and a nice one fingered tan head that dissipated to a thin creamy layer and leaves spotty lacing. The smoke aromas were light but instead aromas were mainly chocolate, some dark fruits and hints of coffee. Felt more smoke in the taste than the aromas, but still on the light side. On top of the smoke though, there is chocolate with hints of toffee, plum and raisin as well as some nice light bitterness. Smooth, creamy, medium bodied and light to medium carbonation. Overall, I enjoyed this but the smokiness in both the aroma and taste was less than I expected. Despite this, I would probably still buy this again.

Bottle labelled "Release 13" at Delirium Hoppy Loft, Brussel. Aroma of slightly roasted malt, subtle smoke, some coffee, hint of chocolate. Flavour is light to moderate sweet with a moderate bitter finish. Body is just medium. Not very smokey and rather light, but easily drinkable and fairly enjoyable.

22 oz bottle from Dan's cellar at the Downtown Tavern. Release 11. The pour is a really light brown with a lot of ruby and lighter red with a thin ring of white head and no lacing. The aroma is something else. There is a little roasted malt and a lot of smoke that kind of lingers and comes off a little harsh. It's like smelling a campfire to some extent. The flavor is smokey with a little bacon and a light roast. It's just meh. The mouth feel is thin and light with a lingering smokiness and it's just blah. Epic had so much better hopes. At Delirium Hoppy Loft, my first beer from Utah. Thin, moussy and opening head over a very dark burgundy beer, near black; pleasant aroma of smoked bacon, some charcoal, bitter chocolate, salmiac, roasted chestnuts, soy sauce and candied dates. Sweetish onset, fruity maltiness, chocolatey and nutty, soy sauce siltiness, soft mouthfeel, peppery hops, roasted bitterness and well-dosed smokiness (smoked herring and charcoal) creeping through. Very well-balanced example of its style.

Not what I expected from epic. I expected more smoke more intensity. Everything subtle. Nose head flavors. Oh well. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at the Denver brewery. Deep, dark brown appearance with a lingering beige head. Mild aroma of light smoke, chocolate, dark malts, light coffee and light roast. Similar flavor, more pronounced smoke, malty and pretty smooth with light notes of caramel and toffee. Medium body, pretty easy drinking for a smoked beer. Nicely done overall.

Draft. Clear dark brown with a short tan colored head. Chocolate malt and faint roast in the aroma with minimal smoke, something that blends into the roast profile more than stands out. The dark caramel / chocolate / coffee maltiness is generic and there’s faint huskiness. Lightly sweet with medium-low bitterness and medium acidity. Carbonation is a little brash and fizzy and the finish is short and syrupy. No major problems but it’s very plain in aroma and flavor and the texture isn’t remarkable.
