4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 GreatLibations (1831) - Last Supper, Arizona, USA - JUN 17, 2011
Golden in color with a lasting head. All white spice on the nose. Medium nectar weight with excellent carbonation. This brew is supremely balanced with the right spice to malt to bitter combonation. Very drinkable despite it’s high abv. Flavorwise this brew is rather enjoyable with pure fruit essence, not heavy nor too light. Again, very easy to get down.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Rusty (1528) - Mesa, Arizona, USA - JUN 14, 2011
Pours a hazy yellow muddy color with a sticky white head. Aroma is yeasts, coriander, a lightly tart sour apple scent, spices, hops, grass. Flavor is grass, apples, spices, cinnamon, yeasts, esthers, nutmeg, cloves, ginger. Interesting brew.
2.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 mtjoseph (243) - Murderapolis, Minnesota, USA - JUN 12, 2011
Bomber. Pours a very light, straw colored, pale yellow with a fluffy head. Aroma is pure mentholated spearmint, slight funk, slight yeast, and subtle coriander. Don’t really get any apples. Fucking bizarre aroma! Kinda unappealing actually. The sour apples come through late palate right before the finish. Over spiced, yeast, and funk dominate the palate til the apples come through. Unbalanced, overbearing, and kinda gross over all.
1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20 mattyb83 (733) - Minnesota, USA - JUN 12, 2011
Bottle. Slightly hazy, straw yellow color with a large white head (due to a hyper-aggressive pour). What the fuck is going on with the aroma. First, it mainly is spearmint, slightly yeasty, coriander spice, but honestly I get no apples at all. Taste is spicy with loads of cinnamon! It really just overwhelms everything. There is a hint of apples, but it is minute and really doesn’t add much to the beer. Finish is minty with a little bit of apple flesh. Holy fuck the spiciness is palate numbing. This is not at all what I was expecting, and it didn’t do much for me.
1.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20 BOLTZ7555 (2378) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - JUN 11, 2011
Was really looking forward to this...sounded unique and refreshing. Turned into a big time drain pour for me. Murky greenish-yellow pour (somewhat reminiscent of the label) with a thick ivory head. Aroma is tart Granny Smith, yeast, and white pepper. Flavor is sweet and sour, with some apple presence, perhaps cereal and lots of metallic/medicinal qualities. I can cringe through just about anything but this was just too painful. Don’t bother!
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Pailhead (3859) - Brownstown, Michigan, USA - JUN 9, 2011
Bottle (Release #5 8.1% abv): The aroma is very heavy on the clove, light nutmeg, cinnamon, and a hint of apple. The spices are a little over the top in the nose. They are so strong that if not for the mention of apple in the title, I may not have noticed it...and I’m fairly sensitive to apple. It pours a hazy gold with a fizzy one finger white head that quickly diminishes to a thin film outlined by a slightly thicker ring around the edges of the glass. The flavor stats with a quick dose of sweet and sour apple with a touch of honey. The finish has moderate clove, but not even close to the dominance in the nose. Along with clove there are ligher notes of nutmeg and cinammon. Light-medim bodied with lively and somewhat fizzy carbonation. Overall, it seems like an overspiced cider.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 dcschiller (2000) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - JUN 2, 2011
(22oz bottle). Pours cloudy light yellow-very much like a witbier. Thick white head with some decent lacing. Active carbonation. Aroma has wheat, coriander, clove, cracked pepper and apple. Taste is somewhat sweet with quite a bit of spice typical of a saison. The mouthfeel is thicker than many saisons and the alcohol is noticeable as it warms the throat and chest. Not as much apple as I would have liked, but it is there. A nice, different beer.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 MrChopin (2527) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - MAY 30, 2011
murky green-yellow color, not natural, head goes fast. Nose is heavy phenols of yeast and pepper, lightly medicinal and apple skin. Flavor similar, fruit strikes as lightly sour compared to heavy yeast and pepper, dry. Bit contrasting, too heavy for me.
1.6 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20 ryan (3185) - Beltsville, Maryland, USA - MAY 7, 2011
Wtf... Grossly overspiced saison with a bit of tartness, and some apple. Rather insulting for this beer to be associated with saison in any way, as it’s clearly not.
