Belmont release #6 bottle at 7.8ABV. This is more saison than sour apple. Nice base saison with just a hint of Granny Smith apple and green peel in the finish. Nice.

Bottle from Total Wine in Springfield VA. Pours golden with a white head. Aroma smells like a scented candle store, I shit you not! Lighter side of medium bodied with somewhat spritzy carbonation. Pale wheaty malt backdrop with notes of white pepper, apple, grass, clove, and muted herbal hops. Overall the combination is sort of odd. I felt like I was drinking liquid scented candle. Not very harmonious as far as flavors. Could use more apple flavor and a different yeast strain or fermentation temp, because the apple made this taste like it had off flavors like acetaldehyde or isoamyl acetate, when it probably didnt.

In short: Annoying sour green apple flavor dominates this failed experiment
How: Bottle 22oz. Release #3. Consumed when probably 4 months of age. Bottle given to me by Douglas88, thanks Doug
The look: Almost clear yellow body topped by a persistent small white head. I have rarely seen some much visible active carbonation in my glass of beer, like looking at a yellow soda-pop
In long: Nose is unmistakably apples with typical rustic Saison yeast. So far the beer is exactly what it claims to be. Taste is unfortunately a mess. Crackery malts, lemon zest, some other stuff, it’s not important. What’s important is that there was a definite sour green apples flavor in the beer and to me it really tasted like acetaldehyde which is a bad bad thing in a beer. However here I suspect there was no fermentation problem and Epic’s usage of apples just perfectly imitated a poorly made beer with a fermentation problem. I could not drink my bomber. A “nice” beer I got in a trade with Douglas88… Hey Doug, not to say that I’m a vengeful psychotic maniac but you should know that I have a closet full of voodoo dolls that I’ve assembled to look like all the people who gave me awful shitty beers.

Tastes more like a standard Belgian than a saison with apple. Lots of bubblegum in the smell, not enough spice. More bubblegum in the taste, banana, followed by some apple and cinnamon. Good, but not great.

These guys do have great labels. Light and pale with hints of green/yellow in the highlights and plenty of fine haze. Ho head on it at all. Apple juice and yeast hit the nose but there is something more than you might find in a cider. I find it a little pukey. This seems a little ill-conceived. Pear drop esters and soapiness rear their ugly heads. Quite bitter and chemically.

Pours a hazy pale yellow with a huge foamy white head...lively...excellent retention and lacing. aroma is yeasty and fruity...notable but not aggressive apple...also some peppery spice and citrusy hop notes. Flavor doesn’t have too much apple...just a bit of the soury notes...has some spice...clove, pepper...and a bit of musty leather. Mouthfeel is super lively and the finish is dry and leathery with just a touch of sour apple.

Ugh....what a disappointment. Aroma was average at best. Slightly spicy but very hard to detect what spices are in there. Pour was a hazy light gold with a one finger white head. Taste OK but not very full. Light apple juice flavors mingle with the grains of paradise and coriander. Very weak. Slightly bitter aftertaste that borderlines sour but, again, very weak and wimpy. Light carbonation. Could be a lot better

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, fizzy/frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy medium yellow. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted grain), lightly hoppy (flowers), lightly yeasty (cobwebs, basement), with a strong note of apple candy, other notes of clove, coriander, pepper, vinegar, lemon zest, gum, insecticide. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, fizzy/lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. I want to like this, as it seems like there is ample goodness underneath the badness. The badness being the overwhelming apple Jolly Rancher smell, some vinegar, the spice mix bomb, and fusel alcohol. The yeast odor is good, the malt seems decent, so why did they bungle this up with the kitchen sink of adjuncts??? Quite sour from the apple juice, and too boozy for the style. This is an Americanized pseudo-saison of which there are far too many. Doggone it!

Bottle: Poured a hazy dirty light yellow color ale with a big white bubbly head with minimal retention and not much lacing. Aroma of tart apple with some spicy peppery yeast is quite strong. Taste is a very unique mix between some tart apple notes with a strong spicy yeast strain and with some very high carbonation. Body is quite full with strong carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Interesting though not something I would rink everyday. Almost closer to Champagne then beer.

From a bottle poured a hazy golden color with a small amount of head. Light apple flavor with a spicy finish.
