3.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle Release #13 and served in tulip: Pours mostly clean golden hue at first with a lasting fizzy head and spotty lace. The last pour was cloudy. The aroma has a noticeable soured green apple vapour along with some cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and coriander. Light pils malt notes as well but hard to find under the apple and spice character. The same is true with the palate as well, tart apple and flowery and biting spices. The cinnamon and ginger kick the finish. Taste like an apple ginger ale but I must also say there is a band-aid medicinal note that take away from the flavor profile and the overall enjoyment. The mouth feel is lively but chalky. Lose the band-aid and lighten up slightly on the cinnamon and nutmeg and I could really dig this brew.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUN 26, 2013 Release #22 Just the appearance and aroma I was looking for. Golden, with a white head with the aroma of apple ginger and clove. What I love most comes next. The mouth feel is fluffy, light and delicate with delightful hints of cider, ginger, and spice. The apple really comes through and the hops and yeast add spicy complexity while the drinkability is very high. I?d say by now they?ve perfected this recipe on batch #22.

2.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bomber: apple essence is notable. Pale yellow, lightly hazed, topped by a moderate, rocky head. Lightly sweet, quick to sour, then low key bitter that isn't what I consider pleasant. The bitter tastes of pippins. ~m

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
bottle. Golden with one finger head. Dry, but not really sour. Apple is underwhelming as well. This isn’t really bad, but I had high expectations from the name, and this didn’t meet them.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Tap. Thin off white head. Clear straw colored. The smell is fruit but don’t really get apple, yeast, and spice. The taste is weak, tart, fruit, eh.

1.9 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
Draft at Reno's East. Quite possibly the worst beer I've ever smelled. Apple skin, corn and bleh. Tastes ok. More apple skin and yeast.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
A gusher, I just barely got it over the sink so it did not make a mess. A soft pour yields a fluffy, three finger thick, almost white colored head that disappears in its fizziness fairly quickly. The beer is a pale gold color that shows a brilliantly clear, light straw color when held up to the light. The aroma smells of tart apples, dried hay, and a sort of moldy, musty, funkiness, as well as some spicy notes that remind me of pepper, some clove, and other earthy spices.
The beer is quite effervescent, sort of tart, but not really sour, and quite light bodied. The apple flavor is a bit more muted in the flavor, but still contributes with a dry, sort of floral, sort of dry-cider like apple character. There is a bit of grain husk like astringency towards the finish, perhaps a touch of cracker like maltiness, and a sort of dried hay / straw flavor that lingers for a bit in the finish. There is a dry, peppery note in the finish that is quite distinct, and this is coupled with a clove like phenolic character, and even some musty, sort of medicinal, not quite plastic phenolic notes. There is something here that almost has a woody edge to it somehow.
I had no idea what to expect from this, I wasn’t really expecting too much, though in truth it is not as bad as I was expecting it to be. Fairly clean and subdued, though it doesn’t really quite work for me.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 ounce bottle into tulip glass; release #9 bottled 11/22/2011. Pours lightly hazy golden straw color with a 2 finger foamy white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with plenty of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big pear, tart green apple, apple skin, lemon, pepper, clove, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cardamom, coriander, allspice, floral, wheat, grass, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of spice notes with fruity yeast esters; and good strength. Taste of sour green apple, pear, lemon, pepper, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, coriander, cardamom, allspice, floral, grass, wheat, and yeast earthiness. Moderate earthy/fruity tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of tart apple, pear, clove, pepper, coriander, nutmeg, ginger, floral, grass, wheat, and earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of spice and yeast ester flavors; with a light malt balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. High carbonation and medium bodied; with a very crisp, moderately prickly, and dry mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice spiced saison. All around nice balance and complexity of spice and yeast flavors; very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
