Release #17, bottled on 7/26/12. Poured into an Allagash chalice. Pours a cloudy pale yellow with a bone-white frothy cap. Fair globs of lace cling to the glass. Sharp scent of spices - coriander, pepper, and a big wallop of apples. This is almost causing my nose to pucker a bit. Carbonation level is moderate, definitely not as spritzy as many in this style tend to be. Not complaining about that at all. Nice mellow finish. There’s enough boldness in flavor to keep this one going. On first sip there’s a big smack of herbs and spices. Coriander, lemon pepper, cinnamon, yeast. A lot going on here. But there is a nice puckering tartness to this as well. With my experience as of late, I thought the apple would be downplayed, but it is far from that. Sour green apples, lemons, limes - all make this nice and tart. It’s not the most enjoyable or flavorful, but it is sour. As this warms this characteristic develops and opens up even more., but I’m presented with another characteristic I don’t care for - nail polish remover. Near the end, this is dang near difficult to finish. I think this one drinks better on the cold side, but that’s just me. Interesting beer.

Pale golden beer with a medium fizzy bright white head. Sweet-sour nose of cotton candy, citrus, and yeast. Flavor is crisp with a tart apple bite that gives way to layers of sour yeast with spices like clove and black pepper. With fizzy effervescence, this is pretty refreshing, but is lacking some of the characteristics of beer, most noticeably anything resembling hop flavor. Decent though.

From old notes -- bottle at tasting -- pale golden with flat head. Tart apple aroma. Tart apple grainy dry with dry finish. ok

Draught @ Flying Saucer, Addison. Clear straw yellow, no head. Hard candy nose. Not so sour, these apples. Saison with lots of hard candy. Meh...

"wish list item that did not disappoint. if they toned down the alcohol just a little on this (it wasn’t hot at all but the body was bigger than most traditional saisons) this could be a prototype for the style. Earthy, dusty, light funk and barn, tart and slightly sweet apple. Very complex and quite tasty. Will buy again."

On tap at Colorado Brewers Fest in July. Appearance: finger of white head, straw yellow color, clear. Aroma: apple, floral, pine. Palate: light body, soft carbonation, light dry finish, light bitter on finish, thin texture. Taste: sweet apple and malt into a floral bitterness. Very light sour in middle (maybe?). Overall, was expecting some more sourness, but really it was very minimal. Good and drinkable, but nothing to write home about.

Bottle. Pours a hazy gold with a touch of green; the head is extremely lacy and sticky, large-grained, and a creamy off-white. Nose is apples, coriander, nutmeg, and what I can only describe as the air before it rains. Weird. Anyway...on the tongue, it’s recognizably saison, but with a green apple and apple peel tartness and bitterness to it. The spices are more prevalent in the mid-palate; I can really pick up the nutmeg and anise. Finish is long, dry, and bitter, but still fruity. Really nice, complex, and definitely a step outside the norm.

Bomber bottle. Aroma is a fresh pear with some saison sweetness tucked in there. Appearance is a slightly hazy gold with a white head. Taste is of fresh fruit, more apple than pear in flavor. the saison is present through out. Palate is saison yeast with a sharpness left on the roof of the mouth. Overall, a good take on saisons. Would be refreshing after a hot day.

A nice beer. Pours a pretty golden. Aromas of sour apple(duh) and some Belgian candy. Flavors are more complex. Granny Smith apples, spice, and hops round everything out.

A very interesting Saison, and not as sour as the name would suggest. Pours a very ugly yellow. Smells of sour green and a bit of red apple. Taste is green apple all the way, but not too sour. Quite nice. Had on tap at the brewery.
