COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Spiral Jetty India Pale Ale is the launching point in our series of hoppy IPA brews. Spiral Jetty IPA has an aggressive hop profile (five different hops used here with two in the dry hop) presenting citrus, floral, resinous or pine aromas and flavors typical of American hops and a nice pleasant, cleansing bitterness on the finish. The dominance of the hops helps to balance the complex malt flavors and the higher alcohol content. Spiral Jetty is our strongest Classic Series ale at 6.6% alcohol by volume, but certainly not our strongest beer.

Bottle from BarleyWine, Copenhagen - Fuzzy orange/amber colour with a healthy white head. Crisp grapefruit citrus notes are very prominent straight away in both aroma and taste, along with grassy, pine needle, medium yeast/malt flavours. A good bitter finish.

Mild grapefruit aroma. Hazy orange colour. Good stable white head. The flavour has a mild grapefruit note and a little caramel. Not as powerful as many American IPAs, but flavourful and clean, and not least balanced. Good bitterness in the finish.

On tap @ Chuck’s 85th. Epic is new to Washington state as of the past week. I’ve tried them in the past in Utah but glad to see them coming further west. Pours bright golden orange with thin white head. Aroma is lightly spicy hops and mild caramel hops. Taste is bitter hops up front, with notes of pine and grapefruit. Substantial malt body, creamy somewhat thick mouthfeel. Really nice IPA overall. Not as balanced as the best, but quite good. Hard to predict how much traction this will get in the overcrowded PNW IPA market.
