Really liking this one. Pours a typical straw-yellow color with a white head. Nice yeast/bread aroma with hints of bubble gum and hay. Taste is similar with strong yeast notes, slight funk, hay, bread, and clove. Finishes good with a nice balanced bitterness that is smooth and refreshing. You really can’t go wrong here, especially for the price.

Earthy, banana/bubblegum, spicy yeast and light sweet and bready aroma. Similar yeast flavor, clove/peppery spice, plus lemon tartness. (release #10)

Brassin #9. (Rating #4674)

Another US saison that is really a belgian blone. Fruity, smooth no real wild characteristics. Dry finish. Solid.

22 oz bottle, release #4. Pours golden and hazy with a lasting white head. The aroma is yeast, herbs, sweet malts, floral hops and faint perfume. Light body, silky feel and lively carbonation. A complex yet balanced flavor of yeast, wheat malts, lemons/citrus fruits, fresh herbs, and light banana with a dry finish. Refreshing and tasty.

A hazed blonde saison with a thin white head. In aroma, sweet citrusy saison with papaya and tropical fruits. In mouth, a classic saison with citrus pulp, curacao, coriander, nice. Tasted Dec. 15 2012.

Bottled sample. Cloudy yelllow in colour with strong carbonation. Aromas are of fruity/herbal Dupont yeast, lemon curd, thyme, and lavender. Flavors are of pale malt, herbs, and banana cream pie. Medium bodied. Tasty enough.

Bottle: Cloudy gold with a small white head. Aromas of yeast, light bananas, and cloves. Sweet flavors of licorice, bubble gum, and sweeter spices. Tight carbonation and sweet aftertaste. For a Saison, excellent.

Release #4; Sampled October 2012,br> A soft pour into my Bruery tulip produces a three-finger thick, pale, off-white colored head. The beer is a straw gold color that shows a brilliantly clear, pale gold hue when held up to the light. Ample aromas of apples, pear, and honeydew melon are quite noticeable up front. Lots of phenolic clove notes intermingle with the bright fruit character and there is a touch of musty, spicy character in the finish that is joined by a hay like and pale cracker like malt character.

Dry tasting and light bodied, but with an expressive, ester-driven fruitiness that adds a perceived sweetness, plus lots of clove like notes that also accentuate the same. The finish has a touch of peppery, some ginger and some other general spice notes that help to balance the dominant fruit and clove character from up front. The clove notes are definitely the dominant flavor here, but underneath this are more subtle notes of apple and pear. The pale grain character is a touch hay like, and in combination with the hop character provides a floral, sort of dried wildflower like character.

This definitely has the light body and dryness that is required of a Saison, but it is a bit more fruit and clove focused than I prefer in a Saison; I prefer more of a focus on funkiness and spice character. This is still quite a serviceable Saison, and is enjoyable at the end of the day.
