BlackForestCO (978) - Aurora, Colorado, USA - APR 8, 2011
On tap at the brewery. Poured a deep reddish-amber color with a thin off-white head that settled to a thin layer. Aroma of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, light toasted grain, and a soft fruitiness. Smooth, sweet entry that leads into a toasted grain flavor with hints of caramel and toffee that lead into a moderate breadiness paired with a lightly dry hoppiness with a faint touch of citrus that lingers into the finish. Low carbonation and smooth mouth feel. Overall, I felt like this had the potential to be really good, and I am typically not a huge fan of Scottish ales. It was just a bit too muted, although it appears to have many of the characteristics to make a nice beer.

Shoulda been an IPA. Not the ’light hop prescence’ as advertised. Good lace. Sweet. No caramel or toffee notes sadly.
