3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 BlackForestCO (958) - Aurora, USA - APR 8, 2011
On tap at the brewery. Poured a deep brown/black color with a moderate off-white head that faded to a ring and left some spotty lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, oats, lights chocolate, and a hint of chalk. Smooth, sweet entry with some light chocolate that leads into a roasted maltiness with a moderate coffee flavor paired with an oat creaminess that lingers into the finish where hints of light chalk and and some light hops peak through the background. Low carbonation and smooth mouth feel. Overall, an average stout, but it still exceeded my expectations in the fact that it wasn’t an overly bland, one dimensional beer.

Tap at the brewery - dark brown - a touch of sweetness along the lines of molasses up front, but it dries out fast - smooth oat character is offset by bitter black malt, and ashy character and a bit of acidity - rough edges need to be smoothed out.
