Growler from the brewery. Nice pour. I like my IPA’s hazy. Nose was muted earth with faint pine and citrus. Taste was good but muddled. Average mouthfeel. finish broke through the pedestrian taste and provided a nice, lingering bitterness.

A nicely balanced ipa, with a full, medium sweet malt backbone that is tempered nicely by an earthy, moderately acidic, medium bitter hop profile - some dry toasted graininess - lingering toffee sweetness is balanced by assertive lingering bitterness - pretty good.

draft. clear copper. medium-light caramel malt and soggy hop leaf nose - drabby and syrupy aroma. chewy malt-forward body with hop flavor and bitterness that seem mismatched and unattached to the malt and body, creating a flabby, disjointed texture and a soggy oat and bran flavor left in the finish.

App: Hazy amber color. Transparent, but with some definite cloud. Pours a finger width head. Ar: Being an IPA, the hops dominate the smell. T: Hops are certainly present, but not as strong as other IPAs. A malt taste accompanies the usual bitterness. P: Pretty light bodied, particularly for an IPA. It’s all rather clean, without the lingering in the mouth one might expect from the type. The beer strikes a good balance between the heavier IPA taste with a crisper mouthfeel, making for one of the most drinkable IPAs I’ve had. It’s not quite as strong as most IPAs and may be a little blander, but it’s a smooth drink and not overwhelming. I’ll admit that IPAs aren’t usually my favorite, so I think the somewhat weaker taste and lighter body actually make it an advantage for me. I’m looking forward to having this one again.

Tap @ brewery. Light burnt orange appearance. Fairly mild hoppy aroma with a noted pale/golden malty smell. Slightly bitter, earthy hoppy, slightly grassy flavor. Mildly hoppy and bitter finish. Pretty mediocre.

BlackForestCO (958) - Aurora, Colorado, USA - JAN 23, 2011
On tap at the brewery. Poured a clear copper color with a thin, tight white head. Soft caramel maltiness and earthy, musty, resiny hops dominate the aroma along with a light, dry fruitiness (orange skin, tangerine). Smooth, crisp entry quickly leads into a bitter, earthy hoppiness with some light pine and citrus fruit (grapefruit, tangerine) that lingers into the dry finish. Moderate carbonation and average mouth feel. Overall, it really doesn’t have any standout features, it was just a really solid, well put together, fresh IPA that tasted pretty damn good.
