Name changed from Erdinger Weissbier Dunkel to Erdinger Dunkel, and abv changed from 5.6% to 5.3% by 2012.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.3%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

Malty is the word with this dunkel. I know it’s authentic but it’s just too malt forward for me. Roasted malt and caramel. Medium bodied with big malt banana finish. Not my fav dunkel.

Pours a hazy brown with a huge frothy tan head. Aroma has banana, roasted malts, caramel. Taste is sweet caramel banana esters with some roasted and hop bitterness. This is a great introduction to dark beers for someone who is hesitant to try. Very good beer. I will definitely drink this again.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap @ ahven. Dark brown. Sweet banana, dark malty roasted nose. A bit watery body (or more watery than the nose suggested), malty, soft. There’s some coffee, dry chocolate. And the banana esters. Decent, but a bit more roasty-coffee than I’d expect. Ok drink though.
