A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.3%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

500ml bottle from Tallinn, dark brown colour, large off-white mostly lasting frothy head, fair lacing. Moderately malty roasty aroma of toast and raisin with a hint of chocolate and mild floral hops with some dough and banana from the yeast. Taste is initially moderately sweet and slightly acidic turning into a bittersweet finish with a slightly burnt feel. Medium body, almost watery mouthfeel behind the carbonation, lively carbonation. Quite a pleasant dunkeweizen though not very complex and the mouthfeel was surprisingly watery.

Pours a dark brown with a medium offwhite head that leaves some light lacing. Nose is pretty subtle with dark malt, light wheat and maybe a hint of spices but really not much. Taste is almost dry with some light chocolate flavors and almost none of the fresh wheat I like in weissbiers. Body is light, carbonation almost aggressive but still on style, mouthfeel pretty standard and not creamy/smooth. Overall I thought it was subpar. Still drinkable, just not as flavourful as it should be.

Tasted as Erdinger Weissbier Dunkel (older version). Light beige, creamy, thick but eventually dissolving head, opaque brown colour, chocolatey with chestnut hue, cloudy. Aroma of cherries, pear, banana, bitter chocolate, hint of coffee, cloves, gingerbread, port wine, liquorice, almond. Lightly sweet taste, soft and fluffy mouthfeel, fruity, maltier in the middle and ending in a slightly bitter, bit coffee-like, roasted finish, more so than expected in the genre. Better than its more popular ’white’ counterpart.

Flaska från Systembolaget. Mörkbrun nästan svart vätska med stort gräddigt skum. Fruktig doft med en känsla av karamell. Lättdrucken karamellig smak, lite tunn kanske men passar bra som grillöl.

On draft , lovely dark colour with thin head. Like a white beer but with a much maltier flavour, the spiciness comes through. Very nice on a hot day ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

En helt grei øl. Egentlig ganske kjedelig, og minner om vanlig og helt standard kjedelig norsk pils..... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Not a special Dunkelweizen. Dark brown color with well formated beige head. Aroma is malty, with banana a spicy hints. Taste is oily, malty and has bread and also banana hints. Aftertaste is slighly bitter.

Pretty much a prototypical dunkelweizen, with more spice and caramel than their hefe. Nothing fancy but never disappoints.
