COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
Name changed from Erdinger Weissbier Dunkel to Erdinger Dunkel, and abv changed from 5.6% to 5.3% by 2012.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.3%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

Bottle at Black Forest, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a hazy dark brown with a bubbly off white head. The aroma is roasted malt, with a little sweet banana. The flavour is light sweet with a light chocolate sweet treacle light spice palate. Medium to light bodied with average carbonation. Not a classic but it has it’s fans who have probably been drinking it for centuries!

Dark brown colour. Long lasting foam. Taste is quite plain with hints of chocolate and heavy roast. Wheaty taste, rather hard to tell any difference from other mainstream weissbiers. Good to try, won’t try again.

Bottle. Probably one of the only Dunkels available in my liquor store. It taste of far off chocolate notes hidden in wheat. Has a very light mouth feel to it for being a darker brew and a nice little chocolatey spice aftertaste. Not bad at all, but no too memorable.

50cl shared bottle @ home from Mitra. Dark brown color, high creamy beige head. Aroma nothing in the nose, flavor is light roasty, light cereal, light chocolate. Taste light sweetness, lightly bitter, slightly acidic. Light body, sticky texture, average carbonation, short watery bitter-sweet finish. Very simple and easy beer, empty and nothing is interesting in it, weaker than any average pilsener lager.

500 ml bottle. Pours a cloudy dark brown with a huge off-white head. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, caramel, banana, yeast and wheat. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, banana, yeast and a mild wheaty caramel finish. Medium body, watery texture and fizzy carbonation. Ok dunkelweizen.

Draft. Opaque black, decent off-white head. Mild malty aroma. The wheat comes through well. A little light toffee, slightly toasted. A light sourness leads to a caramel sweetness. A little more bitterness would be welcome.

It pours a chocolate brown, large initial head that fades to a thin tan lacing. It’s very mild in taste and aroma, smells of caramel and bread, soft dark fruit tastes, a bit watery.
