A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.3%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

Appearance: hazy brown with two fingers of fluffy light tan head, good retention and patchy lacing. (4/5) Aroma: muted, banana/bubblegum, caramel, roasty chocolate malt. (6/10) Taste: moderate sweet, very mild bitter. (7/10) Palate: medium-full body, moderate to low carbonation, medium duration finish. (3/5) A little boring, to be frank. Mild and pleasant, with absolutely no negatives, but… well… not a lot to distinguish it. What there is, is fine, but I’d like it if it were a bit more aggressive. (13/20)

Bottle BBE: 05-2016. Chilled. Thick, cloudy, hazelnut brown body with small, patchy fawn head. Oatmeally cereal aroma with ripe banana and a touch of volatile acetone. Some rice pudding, medium intensity. Immediate acidity to taste due to high carbonation that lifts flavour from the palate, rendering taste much less intense than anticipated from aroma. However, a small sweetness prevails. Medium-light bodied with a sticky texture, high carbonation and a sweet, ripe banana and caramel finish. Overall a much lighter beer than anticipated, mainly due to the excessive carbonation. There are some unpleasant acetone/ethyl acetate aromas, but overall the sweeter dark malts work well with the dry wheat to give a reasonably well-balanced dunkelweiss

Zwart bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is net als de standaard Erdinger zwak, waterig, weinig aroma, iets zoet, licht bitter. Geen hoogvlieger dit bier.
