COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
Name changed from Erdinger Weissbier Dunkel to Erdinger Dunkel, and abv changed from 5.6% to 5.3% by 2012.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.3%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Not a special Dunkelweizen. Dark brown color with well formated beige head. Aroma is malty, with banana a spicy hints. Taste is oily, malty and has bread and also banana hints. Aftertaste is slighly bitter.

Pretty much a prototypical dunkelweizen, with more spice and caramel than their hefe. Nothing fancy but never disappoints.

Expectation: love the style and the poor ratings don’t mean much.
Hardware: half liter (best by 11-2014) into weizen glass
Nose: malty raisins, not a typical aroma for the style.
Sip: airs I recognize but not pronounced enough for the style. Malty.
Taste: a tad sweet
Conclusion: I don’t rate the beer for the style it’s supposed to represent - lucky for Erdinger in this case. I rate the beer. Smooth and drinkable. Very neutral but in no way offensive.

Love the deep brown pour w/ a perfect tan head that doesn’t leave much lacing. The aroma is somewhat malty w/out much else standing out. The taste is fairly uninteresting. It’s pretty well balanced & goes down easily but there’s not a lot going on here. It’s ok!

Bottle, 500ml. Pours a deep copper/brown with a frothy brown head with good retention and mild lacing. Malty, earthy aroma, with hints of roasted caramel, straw, citrus zest, raisins and bready yeasts. Medium to light bodied, with high, fizzy carbonation. Quite watery in the end, with an abrupt, paper finish and some saltiness from all the carbonation.
