A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.3%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

At a bar in Berlin. Pours hazy brown with an off white head. Aroma of malt, overripe dark fruit and light caramel. Flavour is light moderate sweet and bitter. Light medium bodied with light moderate carbonation.

Bottle BBE: 05-2016. Chilled. Thick, cloudy, hazelnut brown body with small, patchy fawn head. Oatmeally cereal aroma with ripe banana and a touch of volatile acetone. Some rice pudding, medium intensity. Immediate acidity to taste due to high carbonation that lifts flavour from the palate, rendering taste much less intense than anticipated from aroma. However, a small sweetness prevails. Medium-light bodied with a sticky texture, high carbonation and a sweet, ripe banana and caramel finish. Overall a much lighter beer than anticipated, mainly due to the excessive carbonation. There are some unpleasant acetone/ethyl acetate aromas, but overall the sweeter dark malts work well with the dry wheat to give a reasonably well-balanced dunkelweiss

Zwart bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is net als de standaard Erdinger zwak, waterig, weinig aroma, iets zoet, licht bitter. Geen hoogvlieger dit bier.

bottle @ home. Pours dark red to brown with a beige head. Aroma of banana, toffee, some caramel and mild chocolate notes. Hints of smokey clove. Dry, small to medium bodied with average carbonation. Taste of banana, toffee, smooth maltiness and some wheat.

On tap. Brownish colour with a white head. Almost no aroma. Taste is very light, some light nodes of dark malt.. tastes fine, but would’ve picked something else if I would have had a timemachine.

Pours adark brown color, covered with a decent and solid beige head. Aroma of caramel, roasty malt and wheaty banana feel. Some spices in the back. Taste sweet and a bit roasty, caramel feel with some spices and soury finish. Very pleasant. A nice combo.

What a beautiful beer. The beer has a coca cola brown appearance, dark brown. Bubbles are rising to the top happily. The beer has a nice soft layer of almond colored beer. The beer has a little metal aroma, together with a little bread. Not really bad. The smell is quite nice, not that special. The taste is nice. The beer is a little bit bready. The taste has a nice dark bitterness. There is a little alcohol smell. All in all, the beer is nice, especially on this terrace next to Berlin Hauptbahnhof. (Allermunde)
