COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned.
Ingredients: Water; wheat malt; barley malt; roasted malt; hops; yeast.
Name changed from Erdinger Weissbier Dunkel to Erdinger Dunkel, and abv changed from 5.6% to 5.3% by 2012.
A wheat beer from the good old days.
Erdinger Weissbier ’dark’ is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.
The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.3%, it doesn’t contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier ’with fine yeast’.

Dark apperance. Nice head. Easy to drink, soft, perhaps hint of sweetness. This one was better a bit better than the last fre others I’ve tasted and all of them were bought at the same time from the same place. Perhaps the moon is now in different position or there is some variance in storaga temperature.

500ml bottle. Hazy, very dark brown colour with average, frothy, brown speckled beige head. Expressionless yeasty aroma, cautious dark malty background, minimally bready, very cautious hints of malt lozenge. Taste is moderately sweet malty, notes of malt lozenge, caramel, a bready touch, yeasty notes add a touch of red and dark berries. Can’t deny the feeling to perceive a general degradation of all Erdinger beers over the last decade.

0.5L bottle. Pours black with a huge, frothy tan head that lingers. Mild aromas and flavor profile. Aromas have very slight clove and herbal hop. Flavor has a tiny amount of malt sweetness, then has a bit of herby hop bitterness and yeast. Otherwise, not much going on flavorwise. Medium body with a creamy mouthfeel and mild carbonation. Overall, not much going on here. Really not much flavor or aroma.

Dark pour, tan head, nose is caramel, taste is toffee, caramel, smooth, light, easy drinking beer.

It’s beautiful but fails to really deliver the goods. Still a tasty and enjoyable beer but I just don’t get that much flavour from her. Big, brown and buxom pours she, visibly cloudy even through the brown dark camouflage. Adorned with a mighty tan froth than laces like a champ. But where is my roasted barley? It looks Stout but barely tastes Wit. A wee bit of roastiness, some caramel and wheat make up the abundance of smell and taste. The mouthfeel is smooth, low carbed and tiny slickness. Meh.

Bottle. Like a regular Erdinger with its apple&pear fruitiness, mixed with an uninspiring schwarzbier. On the nose the roasted tartness does not go together well with the weizen part, in the mouth it kind of balances its sweetness. Still, bland and forgettable.

Musta, semiok vaahto joka jää, maku hapokas epäolutmainen. Makeutta, kolaa? Tuoksussa jotain kirpeyttä tai metallisuutta mutta ei maussa. Suutuntuma todella vaahtoisa. Keskivertoa lievästi parempi.

"a little light on the palate, but a nice aromatic mix of dark fruit, bread, and ever so slight spices. a dark german session brew, if you will. not bad."

Bottle. Dark brown with frothy beige head. Fairly insipid aromas of roasted malt and wheat. Good mix of chocolate, coffee and toasted malts integrated well with the wheat and citrus blossom hops. An enjoyable sweetness throughout the beer which is cleaned up with an inviting hop finish, begging to be drunk in multiple steins.

had a liter of this at the bar tonight simply because I couldn’t resist the free stein it came in, but that being said it was better than I remember. Pour is dark, dark brown with a frothy beige cap. Nose is caramel/toffee and toasted grain. Taste is caramel, ripe, dark fruit, a bit of toasted grain. The finish is surprisingly crisp without being discernibly dry - just enough to balance the sweet malt, and make this surprisingly drinkable.
