Lovers of strong beer need not worry that ERDINGER Weissbier Pikantus 'dark bock beer' is going to be too sweet, as is the case with so many bock beers. Despite the higher alcohol content, the Erding brew masters have succeeded in retaining the special Pikantus taste.

500ml bottle. Brown colour with a small latte colour head. Aroma is caramel, dried fruit, banana. Taste is very sweet, rich and lightly spiced. Too sweet for my tastes but a fairly complex and decent beer.

Very dark red brown fluid with medium beige head. Aroma is sweet dried figs and raisins and caramel, very complex might have missed some. Taste is a little thin. Not as much sweetness as predicted by the aroma and not so well rounded. Mouthfeel is very much carbonation, aggressive and rather unpleasant. Overall OK, I guess.

0,5l bottle. Very hazy chocolate brown colour with quickly disappearing tan head. Aroma: Caramel, chocolate, honey, nuts, fruits. Taste: Sweet malty start with a light bitterness. It’s like a light and watery barley wine. Lively carbonation with light/medium body. Very short sweet finish. Best from the brewey.

UPDATED: APR 4, 2016 Excelente weizenbock, aroma de banana e cravo, típico do estilo. Ótima formação de espuma, coloração marrom escura. Saborosa e com presença do álcool perceptível.

Coffe brown colour with lasting, beige head. Nose: Malt, dark caramel, butter caramel and some yeast. Taste: Quite creamy with rich carbonation. Malt and coffee. Despite a slight touch of sweetness it’s quite dry. Is it lacking a bit in personality or am I just unfairly comparing this industrially produced wheat bock to more expensive and complex craft beers...?
